A340-300s on the way out?

According to the most trustful source in the world Wikipedia, the VS A340-300s are scheduled to be leaving in 2012/13. With only 4 left and all the A330s now introduced any updates? ?|

The last 4 343's are being replaced by the first 4 787-9's. These are "scheduled" for delivery in September 2014........I use the word "scheduled" very lightly!

I believe VS own 1 and 3 are leased. 2 go next year and 2 in 2015 apparently. But with expected 787 delays I would expect those leases to be renewed OR if they are returned for a route to be dropped.

To be honest, the tabs they use for IFE on those flights are better in some ways than the vera systems elsewhere. I've seen them on some Boston flights and they are fine. :-P
Anyways, Boeing recently said that the 787-9 schedule remains unchanged so September seems ok, for now, maybe, perhaps! Wonder if the 787s will have power points? If so, will your phone battery randomly burst into flames when disconnected....? =-O

Nothing Boeing has said in regard to the schedule for the 787 has come true, and since the 787-9 hasn't even had the first model built for ground testing, let alone flying, I'm sceptical that the current schedule Boeing sticks with will happen. Then we have to add the ongoing effort to recertify the 787-8 and then the huge backlog of work stacked up at Boeing on that ...

batteries bursting into flames could provide barbecue meals in UC on the 787

No tabs anymore on the A340-300. :( Very disappointing. I did read that they have made an occasional appearance on the NRT run but they weren't issued to UC or PE on my recent CPT trip.

Gutted as I have a Vancouver flight on an A343 soon...

Living in Accra as I do (the only non-seasonal route to use the 343...?) I am very familiar with all 4 of the 343s and frankly, I wouldn't be too upset to see the back of them. They are a bit shabby, I've seen loose seats and fittings, leaky ceilings and the IFE is like taking a step back 10 or 15 years.

I gladly noted that there was what appeared to be a test of the 333 (i understand the plan is to replace the 343 to Accra and possibly the 346 to Lagos) for just over a week in February and randomly also on yesterday/today's flight but I'm not sure if that's a further knock-on from the 744 that's out of service.

Flying to Dubai on vs400 on 16th of April and notice its scheduled as a 340-300, seems to have been an A330 pretty much all the time lately, anyone know why this is changing?

The first of April was the start of the summer season and the Dubai is now going on the A343 for the summer.

I seem to be like a magnet for these aircraft! My VS17 next month has just changed to an A343 - thankfully my seat reservation remains in roughly the same location. Was looking forward to V:Port (or whatever Vera version that is) having missed out to/from CPT.

Will just have to keep my fingers crossed for VSUN for both this and my YVR trip. I will keep posting my itineraries so you know which flights to avoid and be on something other than an ageing A343!!!

I'm on the 22nd. Looks like a one off switch but probably won't be sure until nearer the time. Hopefully mine will switch back and we will both be on shiny A346s!

Yes. That's how I realised. I check mine once or twice a week. I have done since I lost my seat requests due to an aircraft change in the past. It's not such an issue when travelling alone but that time was with friends. Typical!
