AeroMobile

A Flying Club e-mail I've just received says that AeroMobile is now available on "all of our aircraft".

Not that I have a reluctance to believe anything that VS say online...but, does this actually mean all aircraft, or should it say all A330 aircraft?

Lol, a slight exaggeration I am afraid to say. ii)

As far as I am aware it is only available on the A333s and the refit B747s - basically those with VERA Touch on board :P

The LHR 747s, the A346s, the A343s and the little red A320s are not configured (yet)

That being said, I do believe there was talk about a gradual rollout through 2012/13 (as well as wifi) but nothing was said regarding which ones would be getting it. Perhaps they are stepping things up and installations will be completed sooner than expected.

Ahh just seen the email..

Stay mobile: Aeromobile is now standard on all our aircraft and look out for wifi trials, onboard our A330's.

It does say the A330s... although it also implies all aircraft.. the grammar used is terrible! Clicking on the aeromobile link in the message reveals that it is expected to be found on 13 of their aircraft.. hmmm VS being as clear as ever ii)

I stand by my previous statement as I have been on several aircraft over the past few months and aeromobile has only been on the A333s. However, I am happy to be corrected if VS are taking a few steps forward - or back to those of us who enjoy the respite from land life in the air :P

Any idea when the wifi trails begin?

I assumed given the use of "all" that "onboard our A330s" was related to the wifi (which would be correct). I agree the grammar is awful!

I am on an LHR 744 tomorrow - so I suppose that I can answer my own question then!

AeroMobile still only works though with UK handsets on either O2 or Vodafone. All the mobile networks need to have an agreement with AeroMobile in place for it to work (which EE and Three UK don't have so far).

I beleive the WiFi trial has already started but only on just 2 or 3 LHR A333's.

YAY! I'll pray I'm on one of those A333s this sunday.

On my A330 flight last month the entertainment guide now said the Three is supported on AeroMobile (along with o2 and Vodafone as before). Am not a Three customer so can't be 100% - but wording has definitely changed as it only used to say o2 and Vodafone :)

It's on the LGW refit 747s, I used it this week to see how many work emails had racked up while I was in Cuba

So does this mean that pax won't be requested to switch off mobiles if on board these a/c?

Pax can now use their mobiles once airborne on all the AeroMobile fitted A/C (all A333's + LGW/MAN B744's)

Personally I wouldn't use it for calls and they also ask you to out the phone on silent. I used it for work email only

Oh, oh! I didn't even think of that. I'll need to make sure I'm on my best behaviour.....which is all of the time anyway! ;)

Just be prepared for the cost of the Wifi!!!
£7.50 per device per 10MB
£10.00 per device per 30MB
Note the "per device" so you can't share the code with family and friends v( v( . I tried it last night. It was OK.
Speaking with the Cabin Supervisor, he was glad someone was using it as they crew on this aircraft had had zero feedback.
I also commented on there perhaps should be a "voucher" code for perhaps UC and PE customers. He did agree and was expecting something like that but nothing has appeared. He did also comment that this may be due to still being a trial.

Part of me likes being totally unreachable and 'disconnected' from everyone for a good number of hours.

If there's a cost to it, I won't bother with it as I can do without the inevitable facetweetgram browsing for the flight! I'll have plenty of films to be watching
