Twin centre USA

Bonjour,

Occasional poster on here. I'm curious for the consensus on a twin centre US break. I'm thinking of early November. My parents are in Florida for a week so thought I would surprise them by turning up. But the week before I'd like to explore. So any ideas?

Ideally I would like somewhere warm but also somewhere I can do some shopping and take in the States. I was thinking the Texan coast but have no idea what it's like. And it is only a 2 hour flight to Florida.

I'm also considering using my miles. I have 120k so any ideas for best use of them.

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.

Last year, we did a road trip from Memphis-Little Rock-Dallas-Austin-Houston-Baton Rouge-New Orleans-Pensacola-Panama City-Orlando-Miami.

I can highly recommend Dallas, Houston and New Orleans. We did Southfork Ranch in Dallas, the Space Centre in Houston and a City and Swamp Tour in New Orleans. :D

Dallas itself is a lovely city and the drive down to Houston was fun (some freeway driving but we took the scenic route where possible). Houston itself is nice, if this doesn't sound too unfair, it's quite a generic city (like Austin). It then rained until we got to New Orleans which wasn't so great! But again, highly recommend New Orleans. The smells, the sights, the people - all combined into a fantastic three days there.

Temperatures will be moderately warm I should imagine. Plenty of outlets everywhere to shop! :D

Do you want to base yourself in one place or are you going to hire a car?

Have fun planning!

Another vote for New Orleans Mrs H and I loved it when we were there a couple of years ago and can't wait to go back.

Whilst there it's well worth taking a trip to the Oak Alley plantation http://www.oakalleyplantation.com
We spent a night there in one of the cottages drinking Mint Juleps and watching the sun going down over the Mighty Mississippi from the Levy.
