Is this a good use of miles????

Hi all,

First time posting on here but I've been lurking for a while!!

I'm looking to book a flight LHR to LAX in September and have 23000 miles, I have to admit that I'm no expert in using miles to the best of their ability but have found (I think!) a PE flight in S class for £1300 that can be upgraded to upper for 12,500. If I price the regular flight in PE its £1100 so I think that seems like a good deal.....what do you guys think, am I way off the mark!!!!

Hi and welcome.

if a standard K class PE fare is £1100 and the S is £1300, then that is quite a good price and use of miles.

Couple of things to check/think about

Are you certain there is G UC reward seats available on your flight? There is little point booking an S class fare if there aren't any UC miles seats available (just because there are UC revenue seats doesn't automatically mean there are miles seats).

Have you looked at pricing up an M fare economy seat which you could upgrade to UC for 25k miles on way? Obviously the fare will be cheaper, while it will use more miles, it will probably work out a better and more cost effective use of miles.

I don't see any G's in September, in either direction to SFO.
But of course that can change as Revenue Management update / amend availability.

Thanks for the quick replies!

I've gone back into the booking and found that the economy fare class is N going outwards and O on return...how do I find specific class ie M class?

The standard PE fare class that I looked at shows H.

Is it easier for me to just phone and ask what I can book/redeem!?
