Hi I just called VS customer service to see about an upgrade to Premium for my flight to London from New York on 27th June. I was quoted £682 for the one way upgrade from Y to Premium. To me that seemed a bit steep for the an upgrade to Premium ?| Just wondering if this is in line with what others have been quoted before when calling up? and also wondered if you guys had any advice about getting an upgrade; should I wait until I get to the airport and see if its any cheaper then or try calling them again nearer the time?
thanks

Yes that does sound quite high.
It may be that the cheapest fare bucket has sold out in which case you're being quoted the next cheapest.
Airport upgrades are purely down to luck. If they still need to fill seats in PE on the day, you may get a reasonable deal. But if it's full it's full.

The price is what the price is.
There are lots of factors that need to be taken into account such as what fare bucket your original Y ticket is in and what PE buckets are available for you to buy into. If it's a low cost Y ticket and a high Cost PE bucket then yes the cost will be large.
Yes you can wait until you get to the airport but you run the risk of (a) there being no upgrades offered or (b) the person in the queue in front of you nabs the last one.

On the day upgrade to NYC are about £250pp one way, and this is really the sort of level you should be looking to pay, but as already pointed out if the PE cabin is already full then they may not have any available seats to sell.
You could always look at an exit row or extra leg room seat if you are after more legroom, these are both a much cheaper option.

Thanks for replies guys. I asked about exit rows and there are still some available so might just go for that. I also have option on my booking to bid for upgrade. Lowest bid is 185 so might try my luck at that and see if I get it. Have any of you had any luck with bidding? Thanks again

Only 10k miles to upgrade that journey - around £165 to buy. Worth a try?

I have enough miles to upgrade but don't have an upgradable fare I'm afraid

there isn't any award availability either as I asked at the same time. Ill chance my luck at the airport I think...who knows I might get lucky haha
