I am looking to buy an economy fare LHR-DXB-LHR and upgrade to UC using FC miles.....

.....is it possible to search for flights by fare code in order to find the cheapest upgradeable economy fare???

yes - you need to use the search function on this page

Remember though that to upgrade to UC there will need to be reward seats available in UC - G Bucket (and you will have to pay additional VS fuel surcharge and APD)
