Interlining Baggage?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help me, think I might be pushing my luck though for the answer I want! :)

I am flying to Seoul next week with Korean Air LHR-ICN return, with a separately booked flight with Virgin (Little Red) from EDI and return. (22/06 and 29/06). Outbound I am OK to re-check in since I have around 5 hours connection xx( , however on the return my flight from Seoul arrives at 1725 with my connection at 1950. This would normally be fine I assume, if a little tight, however, over the last few days the KE flight is arriving after 6, significantly cutting my connection time.

So, finally, my question is, do VS and KE ever interline baggage? Or am I just going to have to hope for the best?

Any advice/help is appreciated!

Thanks!

I'm afraid you're almost certainly going to have to transfer luggage at LHR yourself when you get back as you will need to clear customs there rather than EDI.

I thought the rule is that if your bags are checked through you clear customs at your destination airport - unlike the US where you clear where you first land.

It all depends if there is an interline agreement or not (and I don't know if there is or not)

If not you have to collect you bags you will clear immigration and customs at LHR and then have to lug them to T1.

And remember as these are separate tickets Little Red is likely to have different baggage allowances to Korean.

I'm always intrigued as to why people often seem to book flights (spending £££) as two separate tickets, and then realise that they might've given themselves a bit of a problem with the connections.

Better to do the research first?

I admit it's a few years since I flew to EDI but IIRC there's no customs channels from the domestic luggage carousels (I know that I didn't go through any customs channels when I flew LHR-MAN-LHR recently on Little Red).

I know this is an old thread but it came up when I was searching about just this topic!

I successfully manage to interline bags coming back from Auckland on Singapore Airlines - AKL-SIN-LHR-EDI, with there being an overnight in Singapore and a 5h connection time in LHR T2. If they couldn't have done it I would have gone through immigration and picked up my bag then rechecked, but this saved me having to bother about that. I'm hoping to be able to do the same in reverse although don't know if anyone has had any experience of this?

With regards why people might want to do this rather than but just one through ticket - well in the case of SQ I was using a redemption ticket and although they'll sell you a cash ticket from Edinburgh using Little Red (or via LH and FRA) they won't do so for redemptions - therefore I was stuck on two tickets!

On the EDI customs bit - the advice above is incorrect. Any ex-EU bags appear on carousel #6 (IIRC!) at EDI - this is a separate area at the far end of the other carousels and has a red customs phone in case you need to make a declaration.
