16K's about as good as it gets Blacky. I'd stick with that.

I'm opposite Slinky. 19A is my favourite.

I'm guessing the 19s are because of the space up that end of the cabin chaps?

Hamster K to the US and A on the return - less sun through the window!
Blacky yes, only one person next to you, a little more private due to the centre structure, also more shelf space around the suite, faster off than further forward ... I know some Collin about galley noise but really with noise cancelling headphones on ...
Mind you if you get it, and I don't on the same flight, that door at L2 comes in mighty handy!

Tried that once opposite a stranger, wouldn't do it again

.
But with two of you, 12A and 12K are great seats.

Same as Slinky, slightly more private and no-one banging around on the partition when trying to sleep! (IFE screen in and out)
I have never been disturbed by and noise from the galley.
Though anything from row 16 back to 19 is good in my opinion. Avoiding B-zone at all costs!

Trying upper upstairs for the first time next month. Always gone A zone in the past but feel I ought to try something new.
Am I making a mistake?

Lol, already all been said but just to add my beautiful caterwauling to the chorus, A zone seats in rows 16 - 19 on the A or K side...
Galley noise not really bothersome (especially if at the bar), can't say the same for the noise from the pax opposite pjh in 12 that
really did not want to play footsie with him
Back to NYC so soon Blacky? Business or pleasure?

New experiences are rarely a mistake.... it's how we learn |:)
Personally would always chose lower deck to be closer to the bar without having to fight my way down the aisle through economy with various body parts hanging over the armrests :$
There have also been comments in the past regarding reduced service on the upper deck - only done it once so can't speak to authority on that.

For some reason, I've never felt as comfortable on the K side as I do in A... But I've had an amazingly good run of luck in getting my favourites over the past year - 19A for the 744, 9A for the 346, and running a bloody mile at the merest suggestion of a 333!
My brief daliance with 1D on the 346 is at an end - yes it's private, and you're 1st off in HKG but it's also dark, claustrophobic, and you lose an important inch or two with the bed. And when it comes to bed related matters, those inches are oh-so-important aren't they...

Any ideas how far you want to venture?
For some Brooklyn is aworld away but the Brooklyn Museum is good as is the Transit Museum if your into subway trains.
For a different perspective of the NYC skyline take the PATH to Hoboken for a completely different view of the city. Ditto just getting the Staten Island ferry (not sure if you did that with your kids lat time you were there). You could then take a bus from the Ferry Terminal across the Verrazono Narrows Bridge to Brooklyn
Further afield you could explore parts of Long Island but the trains can have some pretty irregular schedules - more so as you are traveling the 4th July holiday period.
BTW the Statue of Liberty opens again on the 4th having being closed as the island was repaired after Sandy (the statue was undamaged) but I imagine tickets will be pretty popular so if you want to do that I'd try and book in advance

Brooklyn was top of my list tonty ,long island also appeals but unsure of what there is there

Brooklyn is an area I need to explore myself - it wasn't until about my 8th trip that I ventured there!
I've wanted to do the Long Island Rail Road to Montauk (right at the very east of the island) but the rail schedule is very irregular.
The Hamptons are also on Long Island but I'd avoid them like the plague on a holiday weekend.
