This has just come to my attention....
- Gold for life if you earn 300 tier points on Virgin Atlantic flights and hold a Gold Flying Club member status for 10 consecutive years.
- Gold for life plus an exclusive gift if you earn 1 million base flown miles on Virgin Atlantic flights.

No mention of tier point changes here then. I thought that was in the offing too, so all economy long haul sectors are 3 points regardless of fare code.

Assume the new rules applies to flights already booked but not flown.

Good to see some benefits in there for people who've already achieved Gold early in their renewal year. As it stood, there was no real incentive to stay loyal.

I assume the 10 consecutive years to get Lifetime Gold would apply before today. hopefully VA kept records going back to the early 2000s!

Do you have to stay gold here as well, and how far does that go back? How can you find out how many miles you had if so.

That's base flown miles, not the extra bonus miles

The Flying Club team just received an email confirming the above... Gold membership for life is only applicable if you have reached:
300 tier points with VA over 10 consecutive years (retrospectively)
one million base flown miles on Virgin Atlantic flights
Their system will flag up anyone who has achieved this already. Unfortunately for me, I am 4 years away and have only half the base miles needed! Not sure if I can renew as worried about the dilution of service with the Delta airlines partnership

lifetime gold eh... is that for our life, or the life of the program?

I read it that a member needs the 10 consecutive years Au status plus 300 tier points to achieve lifetime Au. The one million base miles just gives an extra gift.

Or what about pre-flying club (freeway?)
The life time golds got dropped.

I just read the same thing, and I have to wonder what my number is. I have been a member, though not always gold since 1997/8. My total must be pretty high.

Well, if another 7 years of gold status will get me something useful to take into my retirement years, then this is a very welcome development. I too though would be interested to see what my lifetime base flown VS miles would be, as I'm not sure which would get me there quicker.
Perhaps the VS IT department could add that to the FC account statement page? Too much to hope for?
I'm assuming there will be a sting somewhere with redemption levels going up? Or did that already happen and I missed it?

Would the lifetime base miles include pre-flying club? or just flights after mid 1999?

I was wondering the same -- some of 'today's' changes were already known. I wonder what else awaits us...

There used to be a way to see all your history when asking for the last year of your statement then changing something in the URL. can anyone remember how?

I've been a Flying Club member since 1992 so would be really interested at looking back at my history to see if I'm anywhere near the 300 tier points.

This from a post on flyer talk (actually the BA board!) I don't know if it works or not but it looks familiar to what has previously been posted on here.
Log in to Flying Club...
Go to 'Your Account'...
Change statement period to "1 year" and click Update..
Then in the URL, change "...statementSelection=4.." from 4 to 5
