Using a relative's miles

Dear All,

Apologies of this is a newbie question. My ever-kind parents have asked if I want to use some of their miles to go to the US.

However, ideally I want to fly next weekend. I have read conflicting reports as to whether they can use their miles on a flight for me within 7 days of departure. Some opinion suggests this is do-able if the member rings and asks nicely, is that right? My parents are silvers, if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome.

It is not a question of simply asking nicely it is more of a question of are there are any reward seats available on the route and dates you want?

Your parents status won't make any difference.

Hi, yes it is absolutely fine to do this, and one of the benefits of booking reward seats is there are no advance booking restrictions on. There must be reward availability on the dates/flights you want.
Just give the reservations line a call, you will need your parent available to speak to the agent or already be an authorized user on their account so the miles can be taken from their account.

And remember you still have to pay the taxes and charges for the flights. They won't be free.

Did you manage to get reward seats for your flight next weekend?

Thanks for all the replies.
It seems doing this online doesn't work. I logged into my parents' account, and upon indicating that they weren't the ones traveling the site said booking within 7 days of departure isn't permitted unless you're the 'owner' of the miles so to speak.
Perhaps calling will work better?
