Glasgow To Orlando - Aircraft Substitution

Hi,

In a couple of weeks I'm flying from Glasgow to Orlando on VS71.

When I log onto manage my booking, it says the flight is scheduled to be operated by a two cabin A330-300.

But when I've checked V-Flyer and the Virgin website over the last couple of weeks, I've noticed that the flight has been operated by a 747-400.

Does anyone know the reason for these substitutions?

We've got specific seats picked on the A330-300. The seating plan on the 747-400 will probably mess things up a bit.

If they do change our plane, when are we likely to find out.

Thanks,
varig_dc10.

Hi and welcome to V-Flyer. :)

The reality is that an aircraft type can change right up to the day of departure since anything can cause planes to be in the wrong places when they are required. Think of severe weather-related delays overseas, especially during hurricane season in the Caribbean; or a plane going tech overseas; unexpectedly light loads on both the outbound and inbound flights coupled with light cargo loads .... You get my drift.

Your more accurate information is likely to be your Manage My Booking page. V-Flyer information is historic and a direct feed from VS.

I'm sure that someone with more inside information will be along soon.

I know what your saying, but this seems to have happened regularly over the last two or three weeks.

Hi Varig_dc10, from the end of June till when the English school hols start GLA is indeed operated by a 744, it reverts to 330 for AUG and SEP and then 744 for OCT, it's to suit demand for the majority of the Scottish school holidays. Have fun. I notice your screen name, I'm in São Paolo at the moment. Amazing place.

Just to confirm what the others have said, I live next to GLA (keen spotter!) and I'm on the flight on 27/7.

Virgin have out 744s on to cover the Scottish school holidays when demand goes up however when the English schools break up we go back to the A330. I checked the radar logs for last year (because I wanted to know the exact same thing) and it was the same with the exception of a A340 doing a sector presumably due to a tech issue.

So this weekend 13/14 and next weekend 20/21 will be operated by 744s and back to A330s thereafter.

Note that with the refit of the 2-class A330s coming up, 744s will permenantly move onto the route from October and all of next year.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
That clears it up.

Gpik, I lived in Brazil for a couple of years and used to fly on Varig DC-10's regularly.
