I don't think it is a simple as that. For a start, Delta owns the slots. Then there would have to be a whole lot of agreements signed and various landing rights sorted out - someone with better knowledge of contracts and aviation law would be able to explain better. In contrast, Delta already have a base in SEA and also fly from there transatlantically to Amsterdam and Paris and have bought the slots to start the LHR-SEA route

That's a shame. If I ever get to fly to SEA I reckon I will go via the dark side lol
I just don't like American Airlines in general. It's my prejudice I know. Just my perception of them. Slinky has put up a good case for them on another thread but....
