Annoyingly flights UC to Shanghai had dropped to the cheapest I had seen them all year [£2000], now there's a sale they are £2375! Different date spread but both offers covered the dates I was looking at ii)

I guess it depends on your favoured destination ( which is New York for me ) but all I can see is that they have extended the period because the ny flights have been that price for a while
I have had a drink though so I may be missing something but it doesn't seem much of a sale to me

£2000 to Miami? the last sale fare I purchased to Miami was £1400... (I know, I know, it was two years ago, things change.)

No, I think you're right - the lowest UC fare to NYC has been around £1.5k for a while.

There are definitely reductions on other routes though - I'm seeing LAX & LAS fares at around £2k compared to nearer £3.5k pre-sale. Admittedly not as good as last year.

the persistent cynic in me wonders if some supermarket type "offers" are being employed now within the airline industry, i.e. "up-price" for x amount of time then "sale price" from that inflated figure...

As long as the sale doesn't last longer than the length of time the 'original' higher price was on sale for everything will be legal and tickety-boo

As to Jackie looking at Y fares where else do you think her Hubby sits?

Note to self: I really must stop setting myself up for this abuse! :D

Less than 1k last year! A few half decent prices floating around now but not a particularly great Sale IMO

I guess I'll just have to keep checking back in the vain hope that the fare I saw comes up again. These things change all the time, right? I know - she who hesitates... but she didn't hesitate, she was getting work clearance first :(

Same issue for me, earmarked the DXB flights I wanted and within an hour they had gone up another 200 quid. Oh well, keep checking...

I too haven't seen much change for UC but the PE prices have dropped for some dates to NY. I managed to save £200 overall. My preferred outbound (VS3) was a lot more expensive than the other flights on several of the days so have booked onto VS45 for the first time. Hope immigration is not too manic! It's Good Friday so hopefully the holiday with help?!

Father in law booked flights to USA on Sunday, flying into IAD and back out of MCO in UC, fare was £2560. Checked again on Monday, and fare has reduced to £2340 :(
Then saw there was a sale and rechecked yesterday and fare was £3108......
What sale??? He's now glad he booked before the sale started.

There is no sale.

BA have a sale, but Virgin have just "dropped their prices" on certain routes to compete - according to the Opodo updates I get sent.

Look at the VS website. No mention of a sale. So they're not bound by the rules about charging the higher fare for a certain length of time.

Some tempting fares with both VS/BA UC/CW from Amsterdam to SFO in the region of £1800 £2k for travel various dates in November.

Thanks

Yes very true and IMO extremely short-sighted of the VS revenue department :(!

At this time of year many folk have finished their annual summer holidays and like us are looking towards Easter. BA have actually come out with some reduced fares, not brilliant compared to March but using JFK or Boston for a connection down to Florida, the fares are slightly cheaper than this time last week.

VS are still wanting £600+ for economy into JFK even with M+M :? so yet again British Airways get our cash. We are a big family party this time and maybe not paying out for PE or UC this time but money in the VS bank is a good start towards a profit. Perhaps VS should have been more alert and had a sale then ii)

I agree it's generally disappointing.

There are some good prices in amongst it all, though. £500 for SFO or LAX is OK.

Might be teaching you to suck eggs but it might be worth deleting your cookies or using another computer to look at prices. I'm sure they push them up when they see the same person looking at the same flight / holiday over and over again.

For future reference don't forget that you can phone up VS and 'reserve' (probably not the right word) flights for 24 hours to allow for things like checking with work / hotel bookings etc. I think they even allow a further 24 hours if your phone again.

Phone back within the 24 hours and they will then take payment but if you don't the 'reservation' lapses and goes back into the seat pool

I didn't know you could do that!!! Grrrrr.....

I had another look just now and prices have gone up again. To be honest, I'd easily consider going with BA, but their prices seem to almost always have connecting flights. Not keen on that. Looks like it's back to the drawing board....
