Evening L&G,

I have just started planning our honeymoon to UVF with VS and become very attached to this site/forum!
Having only ever flown within europe with EJ it's going to be a bit different on VS, but just wondering... within PE cabin is there an ability to charge my phone? I have checked the website but it's not that clear

Any help would be great

Welcome. Your plane will either be a new Airbus A330 or a refurbished Boeing 747, both of which have standard UK sockets in PE.

However you should bear in mind that charging phones, tablets etc is not allowed on any aircraft in any cabin. Sockets can only be used to power a device while it's in use.

So do VS disable its ability to charge while it is in use then ? :) Or is there some research that says it is less likely to explode into a fireball if it is charging and in use?

If you are using it, you will notice it overheating, if you aren't, you won't notice it overheat and set fire to the magazine its next to or whatever its near.

And by will and won't, I mean more and less likely.

Yep! I lost an iPod which fried on a VS flight! Unfortunately, the TR about it never morphed from the old site. :( Fortunately VS compensated me for it y)

Ok, thoroughly confused here now so bear with me ! Is this some kind of regular occurence with phones/stuff overheating that I am hitherto unaware of on VS ?

Batteries can overheat when charging, an overheated battery on a plane isn't a good idea. Remember when Macbooks were bursting into flames? Imagine that at 39,000 ft, especially if it was under the seat in front?

It isn't a VS specific problem, I don't know of any airline that will "Allow" you to 'charge' on-board.

Just to add, that I wasn't charging the iPod per se. I was listening to it when the FSM came to me at my request because the very late departure of the flight had cut significantly into my connecting time and I was requesting assistance from the ground staff through customs and immigration. While we were talking I could smell burning and realised that my iPod was red-hot. :0 I disconnected it immediately but it was too late - it had gone to that great big Apple Orchard in the Sky :#
