Holiday Eve

It's Holiday Eve and right through my flat,
Are piles of clothes, sun lotion and that.
I do find packing a bit of a 'mare:
I'll take countless things I'll never wear.
Shoes are lined up (I've even got spare laces)
And now the time comes to cram it all in my cases.
I've cancelled the papers, emptied the bin,
Been on the Internet and got myself all checked in.
Although I admit, I was far too slow;
Sequence twelve is a pretty poor show!
Just one more sleep and that's it for me:
I'll be Gatwick bound on the M23.
Into the airport on that moving walkway:
At last! The beginnings of two weeks away!
Bags to be dropped (did I pack soap and a flannel)?
Too late now as I pass through the security channel.
I know it's 7am but I've a thirst to douse,
So I'm making a beeline for the Virgin Clubhouse.
A glass of Champers? I don't mind if I do!
And I'll follow it up with a Red Head (or two).
I know at the bar, I'll be having a ball
But I'll be ready to go at the flight's second call.
Farewell to the Clubhouse - I don't want to be late,
So I'll stagger quite briskly down to the gate.
Straight down the air bridge and joining the line
Of excited PAX all boarding G-VINE
Into PE and find my seat;
Get all comfy and stretch out my feet.
A glance at the menu; it'll be the chicken I think,
But first I'll enjoy a chilled pre-flight drink.
Now here's really hoping that VS29 is on track;
And at 10 on the dot we'll start to push back.
Out of the window, I'll gaze at the flaps and the vents,
As the pilot unleashes those two Rolls Royce Trents.
And powering along with all of that might;
It's time for my holiday - so let there be flight!

I'm really quite excited now!!! :P

Great poem. Well done for packing the night before. On my last trip I packed at 6am for a 11am departure.

I have already started to prepare for next Saturdays flight with things pilling up in the spare room, all in neat rows.

OH only packs the day before or on the morning, as he says he has less chance of forgetting something, and less chance of it being crushed in the suitcase.

Everyone to their own 8D

The only flaw in that excellent cunning plan is:
What if a desired item of clothing needs to be laundered? Lol

I would take it and have it laundered at my destination :D

Aha, someone with the right idea :)

I usually find the threat of reduced money to spend, being left behind etc is a suitable motivator for OH to pack when I do. Admittedly, he can't pack 'properly' so I might repack his bag, but he has to tow the line. None of this "each to their own" in our house ):

I tried this very afternoon but, apparently, it's currently closed and doesn't re-open until after I'll be back in Blighty :-(

Still, Barbados is wonderful. Truly wonderful.
