Virgin baggage increase costs

Many times we have flown VA and when we have booked tickets and there has been an increase they have honored passengers that booked tickets prior to the increase to waive the increase.

So... Booked tickets back in February to travel next month so when they did the increase to £55 for extra bag I asked them if I bought an extra bag on return can I still pay the pre inflation cost as I can't pay for return extra bags till check in at Orlando..

We'll the reply was no I have to pay extra charge. But the biggest load of rubbish they came back with is "" This increase brings us more in line with our competitors rates...."" Since when does a price increase to match BA make VA more attractive to customers and make them want to book with VA ?

Whoever put the price up really wants a kick up the backside if they think that's going to steal customers from BA.

We'll done VA ..big mess up

No probs :)

I can see your frustration, but I guess there has to be a point when the new fees come in to affect otherwise it would get very completed.

Ha ha, that line always does make me chuckle. 'This increase brings us more in line with our competitors' rates' - it always prompts me to ask .. So, what makes you different then? why should you get my business? some of the responses have been fairly comical.

I think the price increases are just their way of encouraging people not to pack the kitchen sink, as well as the good china and that moose head ornament that doesn't like to be left at home while the rest of the family are on vacation. :P :P :P

Have you tried to book the extra baggage online?

I've got 3 bookings made for travel over the next 6 months. My flight next month was booked back in June and the other two were booked a few weeks ago.

All of my bookings are at the old price for an extra bag when I've checked via 'manage my booking'.

I always thought the old price of £32??? for an extra 23kg was an absolute bargain.

I think it could be argued that even £55 is a bargain to get extra baggage as the other way to get extra baggage allowance is to fly PE and that is going to be more than £55.

£55 for an additional 32 kilos sounds good to me, I recently got charged £50 by Monarch for being a few kilos over on a sub 3 hour flight.

Possibly, but you don't need to check in online to purchase. It can be done as soon as the flight is booked.

Am I the only one that smiles when people discuss how £32 or £55 is a bargain, when a few years ago a second bag was free!

How times change... I'm getting old I think :-)
