Playing footsie in 12K?

Hi everyone,

My first post on v-flyer, although I've been 'lurking' for a few months now (and have got some good tips, so thanks everyone!). I've been a VS fan since 1994 when my first ever plane ride was on Lady Penelope to Orlando when she was just a month old, although haven't had the opportunity to start flying with them regularly until my new job in the last year - great to find a like-minded bunch of fans online!

Anyway, my next trip will be to SFO on the VS19/20 in January, in Upper thanks to the company travel policy :) I've booked 12A on the outbound, purely for the sensation of getting there before everybody else, but I'm not sure about the return. I've currently got 12K, but I'm a bit worried by what people have commented about 'playing footsie' with the person opposite. Doesn't bother me on the outbound as I won't be sleeping, but I will be bedding down on the way back, so I'd guess it could be more of a risk then.

What do people think - should I move back a bit to maybe 15 or 16K (definitely want to stay in the A-zone)? Needless to say I'm travelling alone so don't have a special person to play footsie with!

Thanks,

James

Welcome to vflyer James ,
Wouldn't it be good if you got lady pen for your next trip .
Only been in the A zone once and asked the same question as you .
A lot of the responses I got were for 19A /K and I went for 19k .
It was a good seat with plenty of room around you as the cabin gets wider.
Even on the outbound I don't think I would want to be sitting in the 12s

I think you're right - I'd sit further back on the return. The seats in row 19 are quite nicely tucked into the cabin but they are closest to the galley and toilets, so maybe 15/6 is optimal.

I love 12A/K, *if* flying as a couple or you know the person in the other seat, I however wouldn't choose them if I were flying on my own.

I personally go for something like 15/16.

Agree with the others. I did one trip in 12K with someone I didn't know in 12A and it didn't feel that comfortable. Great seats for a couple though...

I did a trip on my own in 12K having been asked in the CH if I would move. It wasn't as "in your face" as I expected but I wouldn't choose it again if I were on my own.

We disliked row 12 even though we were a couple, row 19 was our fav.

I'm a row 19 fan too. I flew in 19A recently and its private, close enough to the bar without being in the "main" UC cabin and you get a handy little storage shelf behind you.

My fav is 19A, day or night. Feels more private, there is minimal disturbance from people walking past to the galley/toilets.

Row 19s seem to be winning

When travelling with Mrs H we always try and get 6 (LGW fleet) or 12 (LHR fleet) but when flying alone I go for 9/10 (LGW) or 18/19 (LHR) regardless of direction of travel.

Thanks everyone for their replies - I think I'll try and move back a bit as you suggest, and leave row 12 for any lucky couples out there! Not sure about going as far as 19 as being close to the galley/toilet on a night flight does worry me a little bit, but I'll have a think.

Blacky, yes, I am secretly hoping I might get Lady P - I always smile when I see her around at Heathrow when I'm jetting off somewhere else :)

Must post my trip reports when I'm back.

James

Just to add, I do like 12A/K and 14A/K when travelling as a group of 4, I wouldn't do 12A/K as a pair personally, too close to the next row.

This is a video of seat 16A. Fast forward to about 2:30 mins to see the cabin.
