Severe turbulence on VS 66 13/11

Article on Aviation Herald. Sounds like very severe turbulence. A couple of passenger posted on this thread, but VS crew were praised for the way they dealt with this incident.

Indeed I read this the other day and I thought it must have been quite severe and for 1 cc to be injured / hurt , and that virgin are normally pretty good when it comes to avoidance but I suppose sometimes you can only do a certain amount but looks like a really good job there wasn't more injured / hurt.

You can't really avoid that. If you look at the weather radar for the area it shows how impossible it is to avoid. In fact over on AH a pilot flying through the area sound the weather stretched 1000nm. No way of avoiding.
Turbulence happens, it may not be nice but it does happen and the aircraft is built to withstand it (I recently saw a video of a 777 being put through a wing flex test to breaking point- it was unbelievable how much the wing flexed before breaking).
Just another example of why the seatbelt should be fastened at all times.
