Y to NYC ?

Do I don't I that's the question , it's nothing to do with snobbery , I'm a big chap and the one and only time I travelled in Y was back from St Lucia last summer and it was pretty uncomfortable but with these fares for jan under £400 is it worth a bit of discomfort and spend the extra on a better hotel ? ( mrs B is included in this by the way Dragon Lady )

It's the seat width you really notice in Y - after all you can pay for extra legroom or exit row seats so legroom needn't be an issue.

Don't forget Seat Plus - that way you can share 3 seats between the two of you and have a bit of room to stretch out. Only about £60 I think.

I say do it - for 6 or 7 hours it's tolerable and I assume you'll have CH access beforehand to ease the pain ;)

If you want more sideways room I would try for seat plus as you would have 3 seats between the 2 of you. If you want the extra legroom then I would do the 34" extra legroom seats or the exit row.... But bear in mind the exit row seats are a little narrower than the extra leg room ones as they have the ife remote in the armrest.

I've found extra legroom seats to be just fine, in fact, economy as a whole is just fine, if you don't care about things like dining etc..

If I was Mrs B, I'd be wondering why I don't get to fly upper though, given all your recent trips in said cabin ;)

You have a valid point point on that front Miss G but what she hasn't had she won't miss :P might treat her to PE one way if she is lucky ;)

Yes no problem re CH access and my line of thinking is to fill up adequately in there to not worry too much about the food on board ,as much as I like travelling UC the extra pounds saved would give us one hell of a few days away .

I have done it twice, once in the exit row and the next in extra legroom. The extra legroom is better.

Also, I second what Miss G said about the Mrs and UC

A shameless self-plug, but around this time last year I tried the 46 back from NYC in Y after a long run of getting lucky with G upgrades. My trip report: forum/index.php?f=6&t=278087&rb_v=viewtopic

I did find the seat very narrow, but it was an exit row. If you are a big chap then you probably would be extremely uncomfortable.

You are such a bad, bad boy Blacky :) .
Given she's the mother of your beautiful children, I'm with the other ladies on this.... get your wallet out ): ): .
How much time do you spend in a hotel room in NYC anyway ( b**ger all if you're me lol :D ) ??.

blacky blacky lol lol
like you once said, "your stunts arent for the faint hearted" lol
I reckon you should tell you have booked Y and find a way to get UC
that would score big points me thinks.

Agree for gfonk! Book and tell her it's Economy and surprise her with UC.

It will ease the way for another "whoops, I booked a flight while intoxicated" jaunt next year!

If you book economy upgrade to either extra legroom seats (the armrests lift up to give you more space) or seatplus (empty seat next to you)
DO NOT book an exit row!! So many larger passengers book exit rows, but these are the narrowest seats in economy. The armrests are fixed and house the tray tables & IFE handsets, not good if you're after more space sideways!
Premium upgrade is a good option too, with a much wider seat.

Excellent advice, the exit row seats are so narrow!

And on a 747 door has a massive bulge blocking legroom!

Thanks guys for all the kind suggestions ,so basically everyone is saying stop being a tight so and so and treat mrs b to UC and don't even think about Y ! Looks like I have little choice then although I may do one leg in PE on an a330 as I really want to sample this cabin

Ha ha ha, that was easy... :P

Don't count on an A333 though... I will be on the VS3 in a couple of weeks and it has changed from the A333, now showing as a B747 - odd, but glad I played it safe and will be ensconced in UC ii)
