Hi Guys

I am wondering if anyone can help. I am due to fly to Miami in March and am just waiting on the 90 days seat plan opening.

The website says a "selection" of seats become avaliable. Does this mean only a partial seating plan is loaded?

We are flying on the 747 and im hoping to secure one of the pairs of two at the back of the plane unless someone advises me otherwise that this isn't the best of choices?

Im wondering however if they even release these at 90 days or are they a OLCI thing?

Any advice is apprechiated, this is my first ever virgin flight so Im new!

Only about 60% of seats are released for pre-selection, but the pairs at the back are usually part of the 60%.

Personally, if flying to MIA, I wouldn't want to be one of the last off the a/c, the immigration queues can be horrible even if you are the first off the a/c, let alone behind another 450 or so pax from your flight.

I would personally go for one of the seats on the upper deck, I know they are a 3 but it's a nice and quiet cabin with only 33 Y seats and the 10 UCS, and you are one of the first off the a/c

For a couple/pair travelling in Y, these are excellent seats you will have nobody bothering you.

The negatives are though, you might get served last in meal times and you do get off the plane last as well.

I will still take these 2 seats over the upper deck.

The reason I want the 2's is the thought of having to ask someone to move on the return flight during the night.

Im not a big fan of aisle seats and my travelling partner will only have the window seat so in the 3's I would be stuck in the middle and I wouldn't like to be waking someone up.

The fact over immigration and I have a connection in LHR on my return however deters me from them slightly.

I may have to consider extra legroom, does anyone have any reviews on the 747 extra legroom rows?

Have you thought of seat plus? You can book the 3rd seat for a small cost to have the 3 to yourselves.
I am with Neil I wouldn't want to be at the back flying in to MIA and being at the back of the immigration line.

I have tried SeatPlus but they keep saying there is no avalaiblity.

I am flying out for a cruise so I expect it will be a busy flight as its the one the cruise line sorted for us.

I am going to keep checking for SeatPlus and hope it comes avalaible as this would be ideal!

I paid £30 for extra legroom seats a few years ago, on an LHR 747.

I was on the right hand side of the 'plane and in Row 41 iirc.
I did notice the difference, I was lucky and had two adjacent seats free. I was glad I picked those seats over the exit seats btw which were narrow.

You could always try the trick of reserving seat A and C, as no single traveller will choose the middle seat deliberately.

But that can backfire on a full flight!

I am hoping in the next few days when the seat plan opens I am going to be one of the first on a secure a 61 or similar row with the 2 seats.

Like you zjc, I greatly prefer the 2's in my opinion a longer immigration queue is worth it. Don't go with the very last row though as you will get folks standing by you for the toilets and knocking the back of your seat.

You are pretty sure to be able to have your pick of seats if you log at 8am (GMT) at T-90. Best of luck

Why can all the low cost carriers offer seating reservation right from point of booking and virgin not. Must be something to do with their computer systems.

MrDoob, Yep its the 28th December when the seating plan opens so it should be extra quiet with it being in the middle of christmas and new year festivities.

Does the inbound seating plan open at the same time or 90 days prior to that flight?

You can not so long ago as long as the ticket has been ticketed. Its only very recent they changed the T-90 malarkey.

I'm just thankful it is still a free service and you do get your requested seats majority of the time.

Thanks for that information this is my first flight on Virgin so I am new to how they work!

I no BA charge for seat selection as a friend of mine is travelling with them and had to pay a rather lagre amount to reserve the 2 seats at the back of BA's 747 so I am thankful you can reserve seats for free with Virgin!

And even if you pay for a BA seat request it's still not guaranteed, and can be changed for "operational reasons".
