Flying Club Number Change - why do they do this?

I just dropped from silver to red, and they have changed my number - why do they do this? Every other airline program I am in just changes my status/tier level but I keep the same number. It seems an unnecessary overhead to me. Nothing surprises me with Virgin, but is there a reason for this that is not apparent to me?

Quite simple really - the first three digits of the number denote what level you are. For example reds start 006....

It isn't an issue, even the creaky VS IT manages to link the various account numbers as you move up and down the levels. ;)

Well it is a minor issue/annoyance now. Booked a flight when I was still Silver, could go into MMB and the flight would display. Now back to Red and login and can no longer see the flight and have to type in the PNR. It is just iiritating that they do this sort of thing as this is Frequent Flyer 101 stuff in my book. It should be fun to see if they can link it to my new number. Ho hum.

This is a frequent irritant when I book through TAs. Even though my FC number is clearly on the booking, I can't get to it without entering the PNR. At least my corporate TA seems to be able to make it work.

you should be able to change the FC number for your flight in MMB page

I have previously had an issue with my FC numbers changing when going from Silver-red.
When my account went back to red I noticed I was missing one leg of a trip to EWR. I tried to retrieve it myself online but it just said the 'our records show that miles have already been issued for this flight' so I emailed FC explaining everything and they said the same thing that miles had already been issued. So I sent in Screen shots of my account (why I had to do this I don't know) after a few weeks they added the miles/TP and explained that the flight was still on my silver account.

@ Penny - thanks, I just saw that line to "add FC number" beneath the "days to go until you fly with us". Done and works.

Funnily, to me at least, the number I was going to type in there was already there for me to select. Quite why they couldn't have done it automatically is beyond me. Anyway, thanks for that.
