Hi,

Please can you tell me if I have this correct??

Looking to book LHR - LAX return in Oct but only have 15,000 miles left to spend. Have found a S PE fare for £1348, then I did a dummy booking using miles in business class and they have seats available on several dates but only one return date.
Would I be right in thinking I can book this and then use 10,000 miles to upgrade to business on the way out? , staying in PE on return?

If that's correct do you think that's a good use of miles ...seems it to me but hubby is stalling!

Thank you

Hi
Yes, I usually do this. Book the S ticket and upgrade. If the upgrade isn't available at the time of booking check back every day. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when they release G's (and there is no guarantee they will). Don't forget, you will need to pay the extra tax, which is just over £100 per sector (I think).

It's an ok use of miles. This is a bit more complicated but have you considered buying a few more miles and getting an upgradeable economy fare outbound and upgrading with miles from there? You'd need to crunch the numbers but it might well be cheaper. You could still have your return leg in PE. You'd need to get through to a good agent on the phone!

Note that it is 12,500 miles to upgrade to the west coast.

That's great -- well done. LAX is a great route to try UC, and with availability so poor these days, to upgrade both ways is a triumph.

Have a good trip.
