Ok gang so my problem is this , as the title says I'm in UC and at the moment my brother in law is still in economy ,should the worst happen and I can't get him an upgrade to upper what can I realistically expect from the CC in terms of trying to get him some time on the flight with me either sat with me at my seat or a couple of drinks at the bar ,don't want him to be lumbered on his own for the whole flight

Once the meal service is over, have a quiet word with the FSM. Expect to be knocked back, and treat anything else as a wonderful bonus. :)

They might let him join you for a drink, but if you don't want him to be alone, upgrade him now.

I know that you are experienced enough to make full use of the Clubhouse and assume that your brother in law will be invited to partake?
Therefore make full use of the bar, bistro etc. , help him onto the plane and as he sleeps you can enjoy the UC experience with a clear conscience! y)

I don't recall EGG specifically mentioning "G" fares when talking about upgrading.... :w I'm sure VS will accept cash or a credit card...

I agree with at240. It depends on the FSM. I've seen a few non UC pax allowed at the bar but I think they were AU and I've also witnessed the FSM sending instructions that the non-UC pax should leave - even when there was no one else at the bar.

He is doing a bit of work for me that covers most of it RC , I'm sure he prob would have preferred the money but I sent him back home half cut from the pub convinced that it would be a great way to celebrate his 40th and was booked promptly afterwards before he could change his mind ):

If you are concerned you won't be able to cope without seeing him for 7 hours, I am sure if the load isn't full in Y, the FSM won't have an issue with you going and sitting next to him for a while :)

I might just do a walk around the plane and pretend I don't know him :w

Far better to go back to Y and regale him loudly and drunkenly with tales of how amazing UC is. That'll make your walk back interesting. ):

There is a rumour going around that a lady V-flyer recently flying at the pointy end on Emirates whilst her husband was in Y was seen walking to his seat and handing him the Sweet basket from her private suite! :w

Ha ha ,I don't think I'd make it back in one piece especially in light of the fact he is currently in the 60s at the back in one of 2s ,it's a long way from there ! B)

Now why didn't I think of that on our recent trip. Total cost would have been the same. Oh, hang on, I would've been singing soprano afterwards... :w

Justin was always coming back 5 days early due to work but things changed and it became possible for him to return with me. ^) We had hoped this would be the case so had booked a flexible ticket but the final flight from DXB to LHR was almost full with only Y available. He has always said he couldn't really see the point in spending too much money on flights but judging from his comments afterwards he has changed his mind! ;)

It is interesting because we both have completely different requirements from a flight. I love the whole anticipation, lounge access and on board comfort is a must, but the IFE is less important and on long haul I go into hibernation mode so eat and drink very little. Justin however sees flying as a means of getting from A to B, and can sleep standing up so a flat bed is not as important as the film selection or quality of food.

The great news is that this trip has been a watershed as he has finally seen sense and admitted on long haul at least he would prefer to continue turning left! ^)

Still a left turn to F :P :P

Well Blacky, my advice would be you still have a two month wait before your flight so fingers crossed another G crops up.. if not try to get him into PE and at least you can pop back for a visit or to deliver 'care packages' from UC.

I have travelled with mates in PE with my bump into UC (either op-ups or last minute miles upgrades for one :P ) A good way of splitting it up is a quick drink shared before meal service in their cabin (appropriated from the UC bar of course), followed by a discreet word with the FSM as to whether they can join in the bar area for a drink or 5 after the meal. The neutral ground at the bar will likely be the furthest into the UC cabin someone from PE or ECO will get without being turned back by the crew. As someone said up thread expect nothing but hope for everything.

Good Luck 8D
