I do have to question the expenditure in these lean times, but maybe Google have loaned them for the trial. Certainly innovative, if not in the way we would expect or want.

They should call it Upper Glass

Call me old fashioned, but taking the time to read my ticket and acknowledge I am a repeat customer, cuts it for me.

Best of luck to VS but I was under the impression these glasses had not really grabbed the market

Looks like Google are getting desperate for users. Checking in passengers is not brain surgery. Bit OTT IMHO? Don't think the expense would be justified.

More interesting (and more useful IMHO) is news that Apple's iBeacon technology is also been installed in the Clubhouse to send iOS users automatic flight/departure gate info updates etc, details here (second to last paragraph).

I believe iBeacons are relatively inexpensive to deploy too as it uses BlueTooth, as several shops are now installing them as well.

gg is still in development, this is just one of the umpteen use cases being tested to see what works and give feedback for future development, maybe it gives a real benefit, maybe it doesn't, but it's nice to see some innovation

aside from popping up pax info from scanning the boarding pass, the glasses could also update the boarding list in real time (assuming it all works fast enough!)

whether it'd ever replace the reams of paper so beloved of the boarding process is another matter

I do like it when I'm treated as an individual.
A few years ago on Air Malaysia in First Class the cabin crew called us by name when speaking. This was because they took the time to look it up on the seating plan and remember it.
I think the Google glasses sort of takes that away. They might as well just have a clipboard in their hand.

I'm glad they are trying it out to see if it can do anything helpful. Glass is not powerful enough at the moment, but I would bet that in 20 years time, parts of the hospitality industry, be that airlines or hotels, will be using this type of tech to do facial recognition enabling a personal touch.

Imagine walking into a hotel and when you approach the desk, they will say "Hello Mr Smith, welcome, I have your keys ready".

Imagine a VS cabin crew wearing glass with facial recognition that tells them when they look at you that you usually like gin & tonic and always take the vegetarian option.

Mind you that might just freak us all out

Not really personal if by facial recognition software though...personalised, maybe, personal no.

When I had a Porsche a few years ago the dealers did a great job of this sort of thing. The girl who manned the front reception would watch for you pulling in, clock your number plate and put it into here computer before you'd even got out of the car, that way you were always greeted by name. Small touches like that make a big difference to people, even when I knew how they did it I still couldn't help but be impressed.

I think it's more that the staff member/company puts a bit of effort in rather than the fact they have a photographic memory that cuts it for me.

I hope I don't sound like too much of a sceptic but if the website overhaul is any indication of VS IT capabilities, this scheme would be an epic fail.

On a somewhat unrelated note has anyone scanned their mobile boarding pass at the Upper Class Wing? I've tried twice and it didn't work. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Agreed tinuks... Although will wait for this trial to be over to see how much use is made of them. Has anyone spotted them in use yet?

I have just read another article that says they are using the glass in conjunction with the Smartwatch 2... doesn't seem like a fair competition in my view. I wonder which one I will be seeing at the DTCI next week ii)

Errrr.....how exactly Have they been covertly or overtly photographing passengers and tracking their preferences? Facial recognition from a tiny device that would have to track someone who might have bulked up / slimmed down / changed hairstyle / be unwilling to stand still face on for 30 seconds?

If they have the info wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to stick it on tablet?

I have been in the CH about 6 times since this was announced and not seen the glasses being used once.
Has anyone sent them yet ?

I thought these where just been used in the drive thru check-in area?
