Upgrades on Virgin America with VS miles?

Hi All,

Sorry if it has been dealt with, (did a search and couldn't find the answer) but... what are the chances/rules for getting upgrades on Virgin America using VS miles, on a revenue ticket? Is it possible, or unlikely?

I'm thinking of 'main cabin select' to First for an NYC to SFO flight. Work is buying the 'Select' ticket, I'd like to use my own miles to get up to First, if I can.

Thanks!

Pretty sure you can only book pure reward flights on VX.

You're best bet is to wait until you use VX OLCI as from 6 hours before your departure time, if there's availability, you can upgrade to First as you check-in usually at quite reasonable prices (you still only get your booked cabin miles/TP's though doing that)

Details here

Yes I've done the T-6 upgrade before - it was a great deal, albeit only on a short hop from SFO to LAS.

There are only 8 seats in VX first class though, so I suspect availability at T-6 on the transcontinental routes is fairly rare.

I don't think you can upgrade with VS miles, sadly. It's a great example of the missed opportunities for alignment between the various Virgin airlines.
