Hi all,

Just wondering if a P fare is able to be upgraded using miles to UC? Would this fare need to be topped up to the nearest upgradable full fare first? I'm heading to BGI in a couple of weeks on a marketing fare so wondered if anyone had any experience with this or if it's even possible?

P fare is a reward fare for PE... main question to ask yourself is how'd you get to it?

If a MPM (under certain conditions), reward redemption or upgrade from a qualifying ECO fare then yep it is fully possible to then bump up to a G (reward UC) with additional mileage and no additional fare shuffling.

The e-ticket endorsement states CORP MATES - VALID 1 YR ONLY - it's a sponsorship ticket so not sure where it sits within the fares?

Depending on where it originates I believe it will fall into the same bracket as the companion tickets and ECO-PE reward upgrade vouchered.. i.e not eligible for upgrade to UC. Sorry.

That being said, always give it a pop at the airport. Rules kind of go out of the window then... ii)

I was given a P fare when I used my Amex upgrade vouchers to PE. Alas I could not upgrade to UC. I did try at the airport but with no availability I settled in to a good flight in PE. With that said, if you don't ask - you don't get!!

I agree with Joey. A P is normally upgradeable but special fares booked into that bucket are unlikely to be - but you may get lucky...

It's all to do with what exactly your P fare is. Some P fares will be upgradable, for instance if you have used miles for the original PE flight, you can then upgrade it with more miles. Other P fares aren't upgrade, for instance, if you used the AmEx PE upgrade voucher, that is not upgradable in any circumstances.

Is it worth me phoning FC ahead of time of just trying on the day? I'm not sure what a/v in UC VS029 has at the moment although you can book a full fare online.

A "mates" or "mates plus" ticket is essentially a more expensive staff ticket - but still discounted travel.

So, VERY heavily restricted - unless whoever provided it holds seniority in the upgrade stakes at Crawley Towers ticket processing centre on the day... :w

It's part of a sponsorship deal for the job I'm doing out there in Barbados, so I guess I shall ask on the day and see what they say!

You never know when the UC cabin will be full so keep trying on the phone to VS when you see an available G via a dummy booking

It could be too late at the airport...but that has to be your last resort if all else fails.

I've had a surprising result this week from a P to a G.

Of course the dummy booking throws up G's either side of the 18th - sods law! Will keep checking though. Not that I begrudge a PE flight but always nice to know if there's something further up the cabin!

According to Flightstats there are only 2 UC tickets available for your flight, so I'd say a G becoming available in advance is unlikely - the airport's your best bet.

Your problem is your flight seems to be a 747, with only 14 UC seats, but the days either side are A333s with much more UC capacity and therefore greater availability.

The good news is PE on your flight is still wide open so with any luck you'll be able to spread out if you pick your seat wisely.

NOT wanting to put a dampener on it - a MATES P ticket will likely be different to a standard upgraded/reward P ticket. I'd check with them before wasting time looking at availability every day.

Thanks, will do. The return ticket is listed as MKTG SPONSORSHIP on a K fare so maybe there's a better chance on the return sector.

Don't think a K is upgradeable I'm afraid.

Although as joeyc said upthread, it's conceivably possible on the day at the airport if they've still got unsold seats in UC.

Ah well! I can but try. At least I'll earn some TPs and miles on this leg!
