Hi all,

Quick question as I've been given different answers when speaking directly to Virgin Atlantic staff!!

We fly from Heathrow in September to San Francisco and wondered if anyone knew if we're likely to have a refurbished plane?

We fly back from LA to Heathrow

We will be in Economy class

Thanks all in advance

No sorry, non of the LHR 747's have been refitted (there's no plans to do them either), though they all still have the on-demand IFE.

Thanks for your reply.

I find if so irritating that I was told by 1 person categorically yes, we will have nice refurb plane and by someone else , possibly!

The last flight I took with Virgin, the plane was a complete disgrace and now I'm wondering if we're in for the same level of aircraft :-(

No, but these planes are generally not regarded as requiring refurbishment, with reasonable In flight entertainment.

Are you kidding? The LHR 747s are getting tatty and could do with a tidy up if not a refurb.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering, are they tatty / shabby!

I can't understand their staff clearly lying and saying yes, they are refurbed.... disgraceful and if BA had a competitive price I would be cancelling

The 747 re-fits are complete it was only to bring the LGW fleet up to the standard of the LHR fleet so the call centre could have been confused a theLHR fleet were never scheduled to be re-fitted.
Although they could do with a bit of TLC I have seen a lot o aircraft flying in a worse condition and given the choice I would fly on a VS 747 over a BA 747 (or A380 see recent trip reports BA269 & BA268)

Hi Fuzzy, thanks for that. We also flew LGW to cancun 2 years ago and that was just awful!

Did you happen to see any of Economy class on your SF flight?

Thanks to all

When you flew to Cancun, you would have more than likely been on the LGW 747 fleet, which were refurbished in the last couple of years as they were very poor.

Sorry that's not one of my trip reports just one I found that highlighted a few issues.

Your trip to Cancun would have been on a Gatwick 747 pre-refurb. These have now all been refurbed to Heathrow standards, it's just now on the Heathrow planes time has marched on a little but it wont be as bad as your previous experience.

I agree with this. I really hope VS have planned for this because even a couple of years ago it was obvious this would become necessary.
