Mile finder for Safari up and running

Just seen that the mile finder toolbar is available for safari on the mac: http://shop.virgin-atlantic.com/toolbar/download

It's not perfect (links are a bit temperamental, it flickers a bit and not all sites are signed up to it, John Lewis for example), BUT it is useful and you get 500 miles just for downloading it. The last bit is slightly odd as it doesn't mention this anywhere but it's in the FAQs and I can confirm that mine posted to my FC account within 24 hours.

Good to know - have downloaded and seems ok although a bit flashy as you say!

Do you know if you can get miles credited if you buy on a US website? Looking to by a laptop from Apple in the US when I go in a couple of weeks and would be great to get some miles through Shops Away along with my VS Amex.

Thanks just downloaded.

Did a big order to JL the other day and see they are now back up to 4 miles per £1. :(!

How does it alert you? I've tried a couple of my regular shops away stores and not one seemed to trigger anything?

But don't you get hit hard by charges for using your VS Amex in the States?

It's still cheaper than buying a laptop in the UK. I'm after a refurb model which is even cheaper state-side.

Sadly this is only for Mac users, not iPad, what a pity :(

It's only shops which sign up to be part of mile finder for some reason, this seems to exclude some of the biggies (like JL), probably not too much of an issue though as it's the smaller ones I'm not sure of and often don't bother checking.

I would imagine it's a line of code that the shops add to their website that talks to the extension - so if the shop (JL etc) hasn't added the code, it won't make the alert.

There is also a toolbar add-on for Firefox and an extension for Google Chrome, it recognises what browser you are logged on to and changes the download accordingly.

I am guessing you will not get 500 miles for each different browser download however!

I downloaded the Shops Away mile finder toolbar a couple of years ago, never did get the miles for doing so and it rarely worked properly anyway, so took it off

I downloaded a couple of days ago but haven't received the miles yet. Is this an official offer?

No miles for two of us here on different Macs.

I downloaded on Friday evening and the miles are showing on my shops away transaction history as pending.

I downloaded the Google version and Safari version on Sunday and had 500 miles credited to my account on Monday.

Shops Away is a relatively easy way to get points- I have gained 5000 miles (for shopping for things I would have bought anyway) through it since end January. You do need to keep an eye that they credit your account though- a few times I have had to make claims but in recent weeks this has not been a problem (because now I clear my history & cookies and turn off Ad-Block before I purchase anything).

I must be today's IT muppet, I simply can't find the download link. I'm on the Shops Away Mile Finder Toolbar page, the one with the picture of the toolbar. The "Free Download" paragraph isn't clickable, only clickable links are Toolbar FAQs, Privacy Policy, Terms and Conditions and EULA. I've cleared my history and still get the same. This is Google not Safari. Any ideas?

I used Mile Finder tonight on Hungryhouse and was told it had was successfully tracking, but my Click History doesn't show anything from Hungryhouse. Has anyone else had a lack of click history using the Mile Finder?

I use it as a "reminder" to book through "Shops Away" rather than to rely on it track online spending. After all VS IT is not the best!

And when booking on Sgops Away I find turning off Adblock and clearing the cache before clicking on any links helps with the tracking. This may be the case with the toolbar also?

Just installed it and I did love the 'reminder' screen at installation that not all retailers opt in for the mile finder ):

Like Maximus, I foresee myself just using this as a reminder to use the shops away portal.

I have to confess though I have seen more efficient results, in terms of avios posting to your account, from the BA variant - Gate 365 ii)

Good point! I've emailed them to see whether it tracked. Also about the 500 miles that I haven't had posted yet!

As stated above, I discovered the download was not for iPads etc, but I clicked on the download link, and my FC account has been credited with the 500 bonus miles!!
