Hi all, am off to Barbados in two months and managed to booked seats on the plane. Delighted to find out it is an A330 we will be flying on outbound.
My mate however will be less so, he is an extremely nervous flyer, anything with two engines transatlantic and I have known him to hyperventilate at times especially with rough tubulence.
It happened last year flying back from Newark on a 777, and unfortunately he spent a lot of time in the bathroom.
Is there anything that can do to cure that or courses that may help, we are not going for another two months. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated

Virgin run a fear of flying course which is very successful and has helped a lot of people as more people than you think have many concerns and fears when flying. There's a link to information on it on their website.

Hi I know the problem. My wife had similar feelings and refused to leave her seat even on flights to US. She went on a BA Fear of flying course at Manchester about 10 years ago and has been fine ever since. She now tells me what all the noises are and is happy to get up and wander around the plane. Best of luck.

Maybe if he speaks to his doctor they will give him something. I am a very nervous flyer and got Xanax of my doc for my flight to Cancun last year and found them great.

I did the virgin Flying without fear course a couple of years ago. I used to be a terrible flyer,I wont bore you with the ridiculous rituals I used to follow but trust me, there were many!
I did the course & its no exaggeration to say it changed my life!! I wouldnt go as far as to say I enjoy flying & i'm cured but i'm 100's times better that I was.
Its money well spent & something he'll benifit from for the rest of his life.

I had exactly the same experience as Jodybuk. The Virgin flying without fear course totally changed my flying life! A definite vote to try it. They also have a book that goes with the course which helps to reinforce what you learn.

I would also suggest perhaps seeing a very good, well trained hypnotherapist who is also trained in NLP. 3 or 4 sessions would be very helpful and teach relaxation and anxiety management techniques, and if he responds well could even sort the phobia permanently.
If that's a route he might be interested in, PM me with a postcode / area and I'll happily search for someone with proper training to recommend, it's one of my fields and I'd be happy to help.

I will let you know John if it needs to go down that route, and that's very kind of you to offer
