Yes, you may be able to purchase an upgrade at the check-in/bag drop desks with miles and/or cash, depending on availability. Never hurts to ask

fwiw i've done it a few times after online check-in

sometimes it's been done at the check-in desk, other times at the ticketing desk

i'd get to the airport as early as possible, there may be others trying the same, it's first come first served

Would it be an idea to do the twilight check in and ask then?
