Tp help and holiday advice

So my plans for another Great Escapade have been shattered with the withdrawal of the Sydney service (hopefully to return one day!!) - air Nz is not really worth it... And I have a silver membership to retain.

I have 5 weeks to play with between the end of July and August and I'm trying to figure out the best tp earning holiday or even holidays plural.

What are the views of this group?

With current tp balance, 4 return little reds flights would do it ...but I want to be a little more adventurous

That means that you have 7 TP currently ?
A roundtrip in S would give you 8 TP which has to be more fun that 8 LR flights.
East Coast USA sounds the best bet to me.

I believe you can BUT they usually book you into the lower fare codes so - even in PE - you will only get 3 TP per sector.

Yes, VS flights booked as part of the VH package will earn TP's at the usual rate.

it depends what you want in a holiday

great beaches....Antigua
fun and sea , Florida
paradise....Langkawi in MAlaysia
shopping/opulence ...Dubai
big city atmosphere New York

the great thing about America is you can hire a car and just go explore

Not wanting to be negative, but I would question the wisdom of any sort of major financial outlay, purely to retain the minimal benefits silver status offers. ;)
YMMV.

Something different would be the Far East, Fly into Shanghai fly out from Hong Kong, currently around £1400 in S, always Gs available to Shanghai, harder to find Gs from Hong Kong, but should get easier when Sydney route is pulled.

Likewise. :?

What's the pull to remain silver: PE desk if traveling in Y and a pinch of extra miles...

I'd keep the cash and use for something more worthwhile.

There are little benefits to silver granted... I just don't like the idea of down grading to red... Also... While in silver, the dream of gold is just that little bit closer.

Meh Silver is Silver, benefits afforded are minimal but it still pushes you up the packing order and is indeed closer to Gold |:)

5 weeks worth of time to kill.... now there is a matter for debate - what to do with all that time and how to achieve AU in it... feel like heading stateside and fitting in some DL and VX TP runs? :P

5 Weeks - you are so lucky..!

If you go to a Tesco and pay for you holiday with Virgin Holidays you will get:

Miles at the normal rate
Tier Points (again at the normal rate for the class)
1 mile for every £1 spent on your holiday

They will however us a lower fare code so you wont be able to use existing miles to upgrade. Unless you ask them to change the fare code - but I cant see why that would be a problem...

Personally if after TP's I'd be going the DL US run technique, and visiting some of US in picture. DL (when booked in advance) can be as little as $100 for a multi-hop route including all taxes, but not baggage, on *most* routes. The value comes in the multi-hops ie multi-TP.. Just bear in mind if a multi-hop is on one aircraft, you only get one TP though. As an example The DL flight direct to Vegas from Nashville via LAX only = 1 TP for that reason, as one flight code entire route. I was kicking myself as the indirect routing was from memory 2 or 3 TP, and 1 hour longer only.

Remarkably good fares available with many TP's in eco (and sometimes first) on DL.
