All,
Booked on VS to LA and back. (VS7/8)
Out on M and in on S fare.
How much extra can I expect to pay on top of the miles?
Thanks a lot in advance!

£180 on the outbound and £130 on the inbound.

Sure it didn't used to cost that much?

I've just done a dummy run booking for revenue UC flights and the taxes and fuel surcharge is £577.11 per PAX. Just deduct what you have already paid from that and there's your answer.

Thanks for your replies, guys.

Replies differ though so not sure which one is true ...
However, according to your reply Bretty, I've already paid 387 pounds taxes and surcharges per passenger so should be around 190 on top but that's both ways and I assume that the way out in M will cost more and the way back in S.

Go with Bretty's answer! I priced one way reward flights and that might explain the higher surcharge. Thought it seemed expensive.

I still need to get that ever so elusive G availability first though ;)

Those costs are based on return trip so if for instance you can only get G's one way (more likely to be outbound than inbound) then I would say halve the £577.11 and deduct your one way taxes and surcharges from half. Although, that said, it's unlikely your confirmation has broken down the cost each way, so FC will do this when you phone once there are G's available.

Incidentally, when are you flying? You also need to be vigilant with your search for G's and I suggest logging on at least twice per day to check. Do you know how to do the dummy run booking to check for G's? There's plenty of posts that info if you don't.

Cheers

Hi Bretty,
Thanks for the confirmation.
I've been doing dummy bookings about 10 times a day since I've booked my tickets ;)
Flying out on Jan 24th and back on Feb 7th.
Getting mad about it, especially as I would love my partner to experience UC ... I've done it a few times and about to do it again in 10 days ...

Update: we decided to move our outbound flight by one day to enjoy sn extra day in LA before the tour we are taking part in... By doing that and 25'000 miles and 149.50 pounds each later, we are now flying in UC !
Absolutely delighted and we still are on VS7...
Need to replenish my miles now before looking at the return but off to Delhi for business next Saturday so that will do the trick...
E ticket doesn't show the 100 pounds change fee though, will have to check the credit card statement...
Thanks to you all for the help!

Well done, sometimes being flexible helps, even if there is a small charge. That happened to me with my booking to NRT in May. I'd booked a tailor made tour excluding flights and was looking for UC reward flights. Couldn't find them for my dates but by shifting a day or two (think it might have been two) and paying a small fee to change the tour i got my return G's.

Good luck with the next leg, and if you haven't thought about it, check out the cost to do a miles boost on your Delhi trip next week. Often very good value to buy base flown miles or double at a lot less than it would cost to buy miles.

Bon voyage!

Thanks Bretty !
Looking forward to a long afternoon in CH on Saturday. I'll check the booster but I'm a bit short this month so possibly not ...

No worries, you can do it up to 6 months after your flight!
