CDC with Miles - worth it?!

Hi all,

Just looking into CDC with miles for my trip next week. On a G so no chance of it being bunged in with the flight. Just wondering whether it's worth the miles? Seems quite a lot but does it offer a good service then over, say an Addison Lee? Will be travelling from East London.

Thanks!

Only you can decide if it's worth it but IMHO, no it's not.

If you've got miles to burn, fine, but if you consider VS sell them at 1.5p each, that means they're effectively charging over £250 for a glorified cab. I doubt Addison Lee would charge more than £75 from east London, and a local cab company less than that.

Personally I'd rather use my miles for upgrades. For not many more miles you could upgrade a PE fare to UC and potentially save hundreds of pounds.

That's what I was thinking. 12500 for a PE to UC is a much better miles-to-cash ratio! Addison Lee (or cab) it is! (It's £83 for anyone that's interested!). I used to live in North London, which was always so much cheaper to get to LHR!

or think upper class return to tokyo 100,000. seems a better deal than 17,500 on a cab

Wow. Makes the Heathrow Express look cheap!

Addison Lee are rarely the cheapest from my experience - they can more or less charge what they want thanks to their strategy of swallowing up their rivals.

I'd shop around - don't know where you are but I found one random quote from Ilford for £66.

Just found the 'Kabbee' app which has some very reasonably priced cabs on there - found one for £42 which isn't too bad. Let's hope they understand about the DTCI and UCW - I don't want them to miss it!

That's more like it!

VS will email you a map and detailed instructions for accessing the UC wing after you've booked DTCI. Although signposted it's very easy to miss and involves a very sharp turn so you may need to use the instructions to guide the driver once you're out of the tunnel.

Thanks. I've taken it before but good to know they'll email something through!

No I don't think it's worth the miles either. However I'm also travelling on G's and I have phoned and booked CDC via FC and paid by credit card, car is booked with Tristar.

May I ask what you pay when you use a cc?

I think that depends on where within the 75 miles you're being picked up. It won't beat the quotes you've already got, but £62 but I'll be staying close to the airport.

I also don't think it's a good use of miles (as highlighted by @enjoyingit upthread).
I did the same as bretty, we too were staying very close to the airport.
DTCI is awesome. Feel like a VIP!
Other v-flyers have also simply jumped in a black cab in town and called through the car/driver details at least more than 30mins prior to arrival (bit of course remember you still have to book your slot more than 12 hrs in advance too)

Miles = upgrades.

I've booked a car from Bristol to DTCI on Tuesday; £110 each way which is fine as, otherwise, I would be aiming to get down the evening before and the hotel, evening meal, drinks and parking would exceed this.

3 days, 1 hr, 6 mins until VS200 LHR - HKG
