Question about suitcases

I am going to USA for 5 nights and will likely be buying and bringing back a lot of souvenirs (Star Wars Weekend at Walt Disney World).

Obviously 5 days worth of clothes does not take up much space in a suitcase but I was also planning on taking a smaller, spare case. I was thinking of putting my clothes into the small case and then putting that inside the larger case. I assume airport scanners would pick up on this and it may look odd.

Would this be considered acceptable or would it arouse too much suspicion? Obviously on a short trip I dont want to be spending hours at airport security.

Thanks in advance.

Approximately every six weeks I take one full case, and two empty cases, return with the two originally empty cases full of samples etc --- have never been questioned on the empty cases or case in case :) --- been questioned many times on the full sample cases n(

I always bring a gym duffel bag with me when I travel abroad (empty), so that on the way back, I can fill it with dirty clothes. If I have a ton of souvenirs/gifts/stuff that I'm bringing back, I just load that into my suitcase (and use clean, or the 'cleanest' clothes to pad them in the suitcase), and then usually carryon the duffel bag full of clothes. This works well when you're limited to one checked bag.

We do it most of the time; ditto the laundry separation, unless in the Island Shangri-La taking advantage of the free, unlimited laundry, dry-cleaning and pressing (Custom Stay rate) which is brilliant if you are on the return leg from Bali or The Maldives, and want to minimise the household chores on your return to the UK y).

When we don't we, usually, end up having to purchase another bag.
