We were told this after we boarded.

Was initially due to board at 1725 for the 1815 departure.
Eventually boarded at 1900, but were held on the plane at the gate until 2115 without any refreshment. Not particularly good service from VA.
When we did eventually leave, the meal service was VERY rushed with trays being collected whilst people were still eating.

Was not impressed.

Saying that though, I have NEVER been impressed by ANY overnight flight back to the UK.

They know how to charge for food by the gates at MCO - $8 for a sandwich made using 2 VERY small slices of bread !

It does amuse me sometimes when people say 'we were kept on-board without any refreshments'..

Had the crew started handing out refreshments and then stopped mid-way as the delay had cleared, there would have been uproar.. Not to mention that could then mean there isn't enough for the service once in the air. I always find it handy to buy a big bottle of water and maybe some snacks at the airport before boarding the flight just in case!

The reason I said this was that the captain had said in his first PA announcement after boarding that there WOULD be refreshments made available whilst we were on the ground.

I AM aware that there is only a finite supply for the flight.
