In-Flight Connectivity

Hello

Can anybody tell me what devices can be connected to the new IFE systems on the LGW fleet?

Do they have a USB port?

Can you use the USB port to power your own device such as iPad?

Thanks, sorry for the bombardment of questions!

Yes, all seats have at least 1 USB socket on the LGW/MAN 744 fleet.

This can be used to power devices, but should not be used to charge any devices. You can only have the device plugged in when using it.

The low power supplied by the on-board USB sockets may not be enough to charge an iPad anyway as iPads need quite a high USB power output in order to charge them.

Thanks Mitchja

I wonder if flight mode on such devices is smart enough to realise that it is not allowed to charge and therefore will only draw enough to power itself...

They don't - it's like Mitchja said, you can have it plugged it while you are using it, so effectively not charging it, you can't leave it plugged it while you sleep, watch something on the IFE etc, the crew will asks you to un plug it.
