Summer Fares

Hi all.

Am looking to book a ticket LHR-NYC around July 18th and am getting a fare of £880 economy. I can't remember coming across such an expensive fare... Does this sound about right for the time of year? Would I be better off waiting a bit to see if there are any sales. Kayak and other search engines are reporting all airlines selling for around the same price. Just seems a bit steep!

Thanks

You're right - they jump massively on June 22nd - before then a return can be had for just over £500, after it's nearly £900.

If you look at the "USA & Canada lowest fares" page on the website, the offers all stop on June 22nd and restart on Aug 17th. Which suggests to me it's simply peak summer holiday fares kicking in.

I want 18th out, 31st back. Not avail. Seems the whole of July is off limits.

It's presumably the summer holiday effect - the basic law of supply and demand.

You can either look at it as the airlines penalising those who have no choice but to travel at peak times, or rewarding those who can travel off-peak.

If you're willing to get to Budapest first, you can get to NYC in BA club for about £950 return.
