V-Flyer

To enjoy the delights of our UC trip next year the best we can, it is likely wise we have an overnight stay on arrival, or one of us will not get to sample the whisky/champagne on offer at the bar.

Which airport area hotel would v-flyers recommend (as we'll pick car up from airport following morning)? I see there is an embassy suites, which I have used in other cities, but their maintenance can vary greatly - some are great, some not so!

Have stayed at LAX a couple of times now, preferred the first hotel we stayed out which was the Sheraton. I think they all have a shuttle but as per the car hire shuttles the one you are waiting for will be the last one to come!

Unless you have status at any of them, whichever of the main brands is cheapest.
They really are all very similar and if you are only overnighting there isn't much choice paying a lot more for one rather than another.

Well, have all the status that goes with a Amex plat - but I had heard negative things about the Radisson.

I'll also likely have HH Gold or Plat at that time (HH Silver at moment, but Gold will be granted next trip), so I'd have status as several if that would help

The Hilton was alright when we stayed there.

*geek mode on* it has good views of 2 of the runways from some rooms

I always stay at Sheraton Gateway. 5 mins shuttle bus ride from the terminal.
Great service, nice rooms, bar (important stuff like that), not expensive.
Never had a bad experience there and I can verge on the diva sometimes !!

Sign up for their SPG club. After 14 days I have a link that enables you to upgrade membership so you get late checkout (4pm) and some bonus points.

Hilton is IMHO grim - stayed there New Years Eve. Horrid exec lounge.
As Neil says they're all much of a muchness but my better stays have been at the Renaissance and 4 Points.

The DL is completely right, even as a HH Plat I wouldn't stay there any more. Terrible bar too, and an expensive restaurant.

As JCBR says, the Sheraton is the best of the bunch because it does have nice rooms, and a good bar / lobby. If you can get a club room the breakfast is OK too.

Now you've piqued my interest. HH *Platinum*, eh.... Is this one of those "the first rule of HH Platinum is you don't talk about HH Platinum" situations ?

Thanks all, will book Sheraton, have SPG status, so no issues.

I did a search on FT about it and they are actually rumours and conjectures about the existence of such a hidden HHonors tier...

Having lived in a Hilton brand for ~ 7-8 months in 3 week stints back in 2001... which was not that much fun, but did result in Diamond status.

Only comment I'd make is if I need a room at a certain property even when fully booked, someone else is re booked elsewhere. The hotel staff (including manager) have remained friends and will fit me in at our corporate rate with simply a call.

I won't comment if that is "official" or not, or a hidden tier, as I'm unaware of being classed as such - but it has proven useful on a more than a couple of occasions since then during certain fully-booked periods that are predictable due to conferences/music festivals when I've had last minute needs to visit the site (property in question is easily nearest to my work site so is quite desirable to me over one a 20 min drive away, which is usually only other property with space in the city at the time of year in question).

I too have received that...I always thought it was just good service Anyway, it's kept me loyal to the brand (well, that and a cracking rate that I took advantage of during the Edinburgh Festival a few times).
