WooHoo! My first Rewards Flight on VS

Just booked our first VS reward flights this morning, so am very pleased with myself!

I only started collecting FF miles in February after joining the FFC on a whim. They soon clock up don't they? We decided to use most of what we have collected to upgrade economy seats to UC seats and visit Japan.

The chap at the FFC was very friendly and helpful on the telephone, and within a couple of minutes we had G seats on our first choice dates in April. Fantastic.

A long wait until we go, but the early bird catches the flight 8D

So if any newbies like me are out there lurking, carrying on collecting! it is a great feeling when you get a reward.

It's a great feeling, only bettered by actually sitting in the lounge thinking about it…..and then sitting on the plane thinking about it. :D

This is exactly what I want to do. Pity we will have to wait to see what order the bank account is in after the new year.

Congrats on the trip!

Maximus, I share your excitement !
Booked my first reward flight last night UC to Vancouver on the 6th July. Having followed various threads of wisdom on this forum I hope that taking the plunge and using some 100k points to get this was a good use of them?
Because I am travelling Sunday to Thursday there is no Saturday night stay so the published fare came in at £5000+ v( , I am "only" paying approx £500 in taxes etc y)
No doubt more experienced contributors will advice me if there is a better way for my next trip ?| (still have a few 100k burning a hole in my pocket!).

If you still have 100k miles left then it was good use.
If like me you were short on miles then paying for an upgradeable E and using miles for the upgrades may be better use. It's the last upgrade from PE to UC that seems the best value.
I value my miles at the normal purchase price of £15 per 1000
I've just paid £750 for an upgradeable E which would have cost me 50000 miles, but it includes the majority of the taxes.
Then I've used 50000 miles to upgrade to UC plus about £100 in additional charges.

Do give DTCI a try Maximus, it really is wonderful and a great start to the trip. y) You don't need to be in a Virgin chauffeur car, any car is fine, just as long as someone else is driving it.
And remember, it's a slippery slope, no going back now! Once you've turned LEFT, you'll never want to fly any other way. :)

We will be driving up to that there London and putting the car in "storage". We usually stay at the Sofitel at LHR.

So we can use the DTCI without a VS Chauffeur? Even if it is just a taxi ride across LHR from T5 to T3?

Yes, DTCI is any car now - you just need to phone 24 hours ahead to tell you are using a taxi and then call as soon as you have the vehicle registration on the same number. The number is on the website for this.

Oh dear, shall I resign now? Never could tell right from left! :|
Have altered it, hoping the mods allow!

I'm convinced I've been boarded at the most forward door before and had to turn right to get to UC. And it was definitely the case when we flew J on the EK 380.

I think you are right, gate number may be more important. Pretty sure I have used the forward door and had everyone have to walk thru upper to get to their seats in a number of type of aircraft.

Well done Maximus, I'm pleased you went for it and got your reward seats. Now the planning and counting down which I think is half the fun too.

As has been said, do try DTCI, it can be any car, although we splashed out and spent silly money on a VS / Tristar car from Sofitel T5 to T3 UC wing. It was well worth it we thought.

I have also boarded through the forward door, on the NRT flights, so in fact turned right. I don't care which way I turn, I'll even curtsy and sprinkle fairy dust as long as I get to sit up the pointy end ):

I think it is the gate that ultimately determines the physical direction of travel, but conceptually I guess it is always "left" when travelling in the posh seats...

Bretty; curtsy and fairy dust? Then you mention October. Not Hallowe'en is it? Should we be afraid? ii)
