Chance of up-grading 5 seats with miles

Hi
What are my chances of up-grading 5 seats from L class to PE using miles? We are flying out on vs27 on the 26th July. I have called flying club and they confirmed no availability at present but that could change any time so keep checking. Am I wasting my time calling them every day from now on?
Thanks
Matt

You can do dummy booking using your miles. It will tell you straight away the availability. However, in order to book, you will need to call Flying Club again.
Fingers crossed for you !

At the start of the school holidays on VS's most popular holiday route, I'd say your chances are slim at best.

But never say never.

You don't have to call every day - it's easy to check availability online. Just do a dummy booking on the website, as if you were buying 5 x PE seats using miles. That'll tell you if there's any availability as miles upgrades come out of the same bucket as reward seats.

I suggest you do your dummy bookings as one way.
That way if one leg of the journey has them you can bag them.
If you put in a request for a return trip and one leg doesn't have the seats then it will just show none available.
Also consider splitting your party, there may be two seats available so at least a couple of you can have some extra comfort. (I understand David Frost always flew first with his kids in economy. Maybe just a myth but I like the idea.)

I just tried a dummy booking and there are at least two seats on the way out.

And another try for 3 no luck so there are only 2 at the moment.

Thanks for your quick replies everyone. I am really impressed with the knowledge of the members on this forum and how they can respond almost immediately with an answer. I bet there are quite a few that know far more than some Virgin employees!
Dicky, I will do as you say and keep checking using a one way dummy booking you never know I might get lucky.
I have always flown economy with Virgin so would be nice to have a treat. Have always viewed it that I would rather spend the extra money on the holiday rather than the flight, but there comes a time in life where you just want to have some finer things in life! Upper Class it will be once the kids decide they do not want to holiday with their parents, although I have a fair few years to go yet!!

Just as a matter of interest, and perhaps for an other chain completely.....but when people do a dummy booking using rewards, like above, does it hold these seats for that booking until the hold timer expires even if the user just quits the page??
Just wondering if that would then not show them for some that wants them and another hammer for the "Always Keep Trying" motto we have on these forums as they would come back available in 20 odd mins.
