VS006 unusual routing over London

Morning all,
Just been sitting out in the back garden on the edge of Wimbledon Common when I heard unusual Air Traffic noise, I looked up to see G-VWOW operating the VS006 heading in a very unusual direction from it's scheduled approach to LHR.
Any ideas why she was diverted for another go

Dominic.

They are using ATC from Barcelona?

Clearly, they wanted to see what you were having for lunch?
Perhaps something on the landing checklist didn't get completed so they asked for more time?

Out of curiosity, which app are you using for plane spotting?
Thanks

Interesting - this happened on my last flight back from JFK - again on VS026... Perhaps its a landing pattern for early flights (mine was running well ahead of schedule) and they use it to burn a bit of time / fuel if they have had an efficient flight and don't want to fuel dump..?

We've heard a few flights today ovehead this seems to be happening on different days/times. I'm wondering if they are practising new flight plans into LHR if the expansion goes ahead.
I only live 5 minutes from LHR and don't normally get bothered by aircraft noise, today was pretty noisy, last one went over at approx. 23:00 tonight, low and loud. They can shove off, I wouldn't want that everyday.

Welcome to my world.....Yes LHR has been trying out different flight paths. I live in Surrey and since Christmas had noticed really loud flights overhead. I work at home and one day I had a knock on the door from two ladies asking if I would take part in a survey the following week about aircraft noise.
Had two nice men come round with a laptop and explain to me what they were doing - they were sending planes out on very controlled flight paths, all of which went directly over my house. Apparently if they do this (can't remember what they called it but there was a term for it), they could increase throughput at the airport. Sadly for me all 4 of the routes went more or less right overhead. Thankfully the experiment here has now finished and we are back to normal, but I live in fear of it being made permanent as it was incredibly noisy, especially at night.
Part of the survey covered what my preference for compensation would be if they did implement the scheme permanently e.g. donations to community projects, £100 a year (perhaps this is to cover ear plug costs?) etc etc, so I quite obviously said my preference was for them to put it back how it had been for the last 13 years I have lived here!

Surely if you live within close proximity of an airport then you have to expect that aircraft noise may at some point become an issue?

Living in Watford, I am under a number of inbound and outbound paths, mostly Heathrow but some private jets and the occasional Luton. Have noticed changes recently but appear to be back to the originals. It is only really noticeable when you have a 777 overhead, rest of the time no problems.

What's a very unusual direction over Wimbledon to LHR? It's West or lost surely? Traffic can often jump the queue for sequencing which on occasion means joining finals anywhere from over London City to Westminster. Anything further West is likely to get in the way....

I don't live that close, and the noise was significantly increased during the experiment due to the fact that instead of fanning all the aircraft paths out they were following 4 strict routes, all of which go over or close to our house. Apparently they are at 6000ft when they pass over but some were blotting out the sound on the tv! So glad we have gone back to the original patterns, which is noticeably quieter....let's hope it is not temporary.

She had pulled out of her approach and was heading South and climbing.

Ahh I see, well that's not even a standard missed approach so potentially cabin not ready for landing and advised ATC in good time or brief runway obstruction or inspection meaning traffic already vectored for finals was sent around.
