Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I'm flying to New York in August on flights VS45 & VS10 & both flights will be on 747's.

I'm going to change our seats so that we are sitting in the economy section of the upper deck, but wondered if anyone knew if the seats in the last rows recline fully? I've flown in the upper deck once before a few years ago, & I think they might have reclined in row 79, but wasn't sure about row 80, as there was a toilet directly behind.

I've looked on Seat Guru but they just said the seats may not recline fully. I wondered if anyone on here could help.

Seatguru is wrong. All seats on all VS long haul aircraft fully recline.

Hi I had exactly the same question and had the same reply Gumshoe has given you. Seems Seatguru isn't right with a few configurations IMO.

What dates do you fly as we are on the exact same flights as you August 29th out September 3rd back managed to request 79 A and B each way

We fly out on 28th August & back on 4th Sept. I've requested 78J& K on the way out & 79A & B on the way back. Row 80 is currently free for both trips, but I thought as that row is quite close to the toilet, it might get a bit busy with people queuing.
Also I read these seats could still be reassigned at check in, so it is best to do online check in as early as possible to secure them!

No seat request is ever guaranteed. It's always wise to check periodically that you're still where you asked to be.

And yes, doing OLCI as soon as possible after it opens - and issuing your boarding card even if you don't print it - is sensible as those last 24 hours are when it's most likely that people will be moved to accommodate families and groups who want to sit together. It's a lot harder for them to move you if you've already issued your boarding card.

Personally I go for the back row in A/B and the recline is fine. I love the upstairs on the 747 as there is so much more room with the seat-side cubby holes, and the limited number of passengers. I fly on the LGW fleet and I am sure the toilets were at the front of the cabin and the bit behind the J/K seats was baggage storage, but it may be different on the LHR fleet in which case I would avoid seats on that side due to noise.

I flew to LAX in row 80 not that long ago.
There was no problem with noise from the toilets and with only a few pax up there no problem with those waiting.

CHIlli70 - did the seats recline ok in row 80? If so I might be chasing my seat request again.

I'm also looking to try and get upstairs for mine and my partners wedding in Cancun in September, from what I can gather on here it's much quieter etc, however which of the selectable rows are best for a window seat, I.E. where the window isn't half and half between two rows? My partner can sometimes be a bit of a nervous flyer and always prefers the window. I've heard row 78 would be a good choice somewhere around, can anyone give any advice?

Yes full recline with no problem.
There is a space behind the seats so they are not right up against the wall.

Am I being paranoid or are these two flights among Virgins most delayed? Been tracking the departure times over last couple of weeks and they very rarely depart on time normally 30-90mins late and on one occasion over 3hrs.

Maybe down to age of fleet?

Doubt it - LHR 747s fly plenty of other routes without major delays.

More likely to be congestion at JFK/LHR.
