3hrs 30 to get from LGW to LHR?

Hi all,
Looking at the AMS tick to HKG in October and the quickest flight Expedia is giving me is AMS to LGW then out to HKG from LHR. It's only got a 3hr30m layover between the two flights. Has anyone had experience of making this gap? It seems a little tight to me.
Any thoughts?!
O

Depending on the costs your willing to pay, you could get the Gatwick Express to Victoria (30 Mins) then catch the Tube from there to Heathrow (55 mins ish). Adding transfer times, baggage reclaim/customs etc you should be ok, unless its exceptionally busy when you get to Gatwick.

I think we would most likely get a taxi from LGW to LHR as we'll have a lot of luggage. I was just concerned about check ins/bag drops closing at LHR.

National Express reckon a coach journey of just over an hour, for £25.

Seriously? There's a 1915 BA flight from AMS to LHR arriving at 1930 which would be perfect for the VS200. There should be no reason to have to go via LGW.
I think Expedia spits out results in order of price so if the LGW option's cheaper it'll offer that first.

If you must do a LGW-LHR transfer in either direction, don't even think about using the two Expresses with a tube in the middle. It's a ghastly way to do it. I used to work in Gatwick and for Heathrow flights I swear by National Express - door to door, no faffing about, and I found it remarkably punctual. Worst trip I had was 1:25, and the M25 was a complete mare - so much so that the driver took the bus off at the M3 and wound his way up from there...

Guess you are not doing it in upper or as an FC AU, since 3:30 isn't enough for the jouney and the clubhouse

Surprised it is that much cheaper in Economy to make it worthwhile.

I've done same trip [AMS-HKG] many times ---- ISTC but Expedia/AMS trick on this route only works UC?

I live equidistant to LHR/LGW [Guildford]so know this section of M25 extremely well -- never did National Express, but makes perfect sense as Sarastro descibes

Oh yes I'll be doing UC - it's a long trip without it! But yes, this would severely limit our time in the CH, if any at all. Maybe enough time to pop in for a drink but that's about it!
