If you book Virgin flights through Expedia, do you still get the miles and tier points

However if you pay using a VS credit card you wouldn't get the extra miles bonus you'd get if you booked with VS direct.

I think if you purchase through Expedia having gone through Shops Away, you get a 1 mile per £1 spent bonus on flights which is credited from Shops Away, regardless of which method of payment you use. If you book with VS direct, I believe you also receive a 1 mile per £1 bonus, but I think that's only if you pay with the VS card. The last flights I booked and paid for with VS were about £1,800, and I received an 1,800 mile "bonus" on my credit card statement at the end of the month, as well as the 1,800 miles accrued from the credit card spent (so 3,600 in total). I hope that makes sense!

There should be no real difference fare wise, and last time I booked via Expedia they had no credit card charges.

Link your Flying Club membership and you can view your booking on the Virgin website.

However you won't have the same access to make changes to your booking, be offered upgrades etc. as all changes etc. have to go through Expedia.

Do you know if you would still be able to choose seats before check-in and do online check-in?

Yes, you just need your Virgin PNR (the 6 character alphanumeric booking reference) which Expedia will give you and should be somewhere on your itinerary. Use that to log on to the VS site and manage your booking as normal.

I'm fairly sure that the last time I booked a VS flight using my VS Amex cia Expedia that I did get the bonus as the entry on my statement was from Virgin with a separate charge from Expedia for their fee (about £8). That was a couple of years ago though and it could have changed.

Same happned when I booked a BA flight via Expedia - two CC entries one for BA and one for Expedia.

I could understand not getting the bonus if Expedia collected the cash but in my case it was Virgin who were paid direct.

Not particularly helpful other than it is for Expedia, but if you were to book something via their app, there is a £20 off £100 spend with MOBILE20NEW.

Hope I'm ok to post that. Might be useful for the airport hotel.

I am off to Stockholm in May, flying with SAS and booking through Expedia. Is there anyway I can earn the miles with Virgin as a partner airline?

All you need to do is enter your FC number in the 'Update Frequent Flyer number' section of your Expedia itinerary page.

That's still the case Tonty & Gumshoe, I did an expedia booing fir an ex-DUB a couple of months ago and there were 2 payments on my Amex statement and I got the double points.

Just to expand on this.

I used to use the virgin shops away for booking via hotel.com for hotels. 6 points to £1 spent. Occasionally they do a special and 12 points to a £1, got me 12000 miles for my cancun hotel bookings....

However, I've been doing topcashback (I won't compare the hotels) and it does give the option to do either VS or BA.

What you do is convert your cashback to tesco clubcard and then automatically convert to whatever points. 240 for BA, 250 for VS per pound (and VS does do 30% bonus a lot more than BA).

So if you book via topcashback, say on the 1800 cost mentioned.

This gets you £62.10 cashback. Convert that to topcashback to tesco to VS miles, its 15525 miles (20182 if 30% bonus).

Changed the way I do things...

Smid - I'm just starting to dabble with topcashback, and I also saw the option to convert rewards to tesco clubcard points. But I thought I saw that there was a £50 limit on doing that?

Either way, seems a decent way to boost miles - over 12% currently on Holiday Autos which is going to be worth a bit to me...

It's £50 per year ( rolling 12 months). Some merchants are excluded in the Tesco conversion though.

Bah, that is news to me, I'm just past that. There was me thinking an easy 50K miles for BA for something...

They can convert to 105 (premium bonus) per pound for all avios, which isn't as nice.

Still, 6520 for a booking isn't bad. Add in VS premium amex bonus, and a spare 12K points might be achievable to that booking.

Disappointed about the tesco limit...
