Help Needed- Flying Club Miles

My wife and I both have separate Flying Club accounts. We have enough miles each to book the flights we want with these miles (subject to the availability).

My question is this; Would we need to do one booking each or is there anyway that I can transfer all the miles to my account a make one booking for the 2 of us?

I have seen there is a option to gift or transfer miles but it looks like there is quite a large fee to transfer all the miles to one account to make the booking.

Not sure if I am missing something? Help!!

Hi - you don't need to transfer the miles to your account (and you can't without paying the high fees). As long you are authorised to use her account (or she is with you at the time of booking to give her authorisation), then you can just make one booking and they will take the miles from two different accounts. Of course this has to be done on the phone and can't be done online.

I'll jump in here and just say that are you sure you want to do miles redemption? They are often not the best value for your miles, but if you want to save money or burn miles, then they can work. Most V-flyers will agree that economy to upper miles upgrade will be the best value :)

Miles redemptions are still a really great way to use miles and save money. A full UC redemption still offers a big saving over the ever expensive M economy fares upgraded to a G with miles.

Value of miles is ultimately all relative to the person spending them, their want from their miles and future plans.

Ah yes I was assuming that op was going for economy miles redemption. Agreed that UC redemption could be great value, but as I'll probably never have enough miles to do outright UC redemption I assumed otherwise automatically :)

To add to what Neil has said, I have done both full redemption and economy to upper upgrades. In the past, I wouldn't have considered either and in fact used miles to send or bring family and friends to places they wouldn't have been able to go for themselves. However the change in the criteria for Au status meant that I would no longer re-qualify and it freed me to start spending on myself. A couple of years ago, the recession bit and to be able to go to what, my son (Aer John to the cognoscenti) called my annual pilgrimage to SFO was only achievable in Upper with a full redemption. y)

Fast forward to last year and the intimation that a wedding was on the cards in the US in September. I had written off the possibility of attending and certainly hadn't the miles for a full redemption but an economy to Upper upgrade made it entirely possible .

Horses for courses! :o)
