Mobile Boarding Passes

So, mobile boarding passes... Are they any good? Was thinking about giving them a go for my flights in October. There's a group of us though, do we all need to have a phone? Or would it just be easier to go for good old printed passes from the desk?

Are they any good? Well they do what they're meant to do and I prefer them but I know a lot of people prefer having the physical cards (or often these days a flimsy bit of paper).

I don't know what the rules are regarding multiple passes on a single phone but on a purely practical level I wouldn't recommend it, even if it's allowed. Having to switch between different screens as you go through the automated barriers before security or board the flight would slow everything down considerably.

I have used mobile boarding pass when travelling on my own a couple of times and would recommend it.
There was an item on the Virgin site news saying you can now use it for a group booking. Sadly I can't find the article at the moment, but if I do I'll post it.
If everyone is booked on the same reference it should be straight forward. I think the problems will arise if you have different booking references.
If it's a long haul and you are going to the desk anyway it's probably easier just get a card.

Works fine for more than one.

After OLCI i just emailed the boarding pass to my wife and kids and they then had them on iPhone and iPods.

I have used mobile boarding passes for other airlines without any problems. I think VS mobile passes are now compatible with iPhone Passbook which means multiple boarding passes can be used and it's simply a case of scan, swipe to next pas, scan and so on. But you'd need to check that VS is able to cope with multiple passes on one device. I'm sure I read recently about the passbook compatibility so it should be.

I just checked the news section on VS website and passbook is compatible and multiple boarding cards for groups. It's 2 separate articles so I guess you don't need an Apple device to use multiple boarding passes.

Just checked in online for VS201 back to London. Had a choice of emailing of the boarding pass or SMS with link to Mobile boarding and chose later.
Just opened it up on phone and looks ok with bar code and all details however when I look at the VS website it does not list HKG as one of the airport you can use it.
I know from flying CX last year that its accepted by HKG airport security and from a conveneience element they are good.
Will find out tonight if it works or not. Am hoping the VS website is just out of date.
