Expensive economy flights !

Hi there
I don’t know if anyone can help – I need to book some economy flights to Newark on the 24th Oct travelling on the late flight if possible(8.30pm) for two people. When I called Virgin they were quoting me over £1000 to travel economy class (coming back on the 26h Oct) – When I called Delta on the same flight it is £822. Does anyone know if there is any big difference with who you book with in terms of miles / upgrades etc? I was thinking even if I don’t get the full mileage it might be worth it for the price saving?? If I book with Delta can I upgrade with miles?
Also – did someone say there was some trick about going from Amsterdam to make it cheaper?!
Any info gratefully received!

I've just priced your itinerary on the VS website and it's coming in at £810, out on the 2030 flight on the 24th and back on either of the Newark flights on the 26th.

I can only assume you were quoted a more flexible and therefore more expensive fare bucket for some reason.

Yes it can be cheaper to start your journey in another European city but IMHO the savings are only really worth it in the premium cabins.

Sometimes, it can be cheaper to book a "fly drive" with VH, and not bother collecting the car if you don't need it...

worth checking?
