This will see in-flight wi-fi with download speeds of up to 70Mb available from mid-2015.
What people need to remember though is that is the total available bandwidth to the aircraft, so that will be shared with everyone else using the system, but that should still be able to provide faster speeds than the current much slower L-Band satellite WiFi system installed on 3 of the 330's or the AeroMobile data system.

Im sure this will see alot of people chekin into facebook at 35,000 feet. Great use of the wifi.

It uses a satellite connection.

Naming no names, but I'm sure I recall someone posting a "Hello from 35,000 feet" from an Emirates flight to Australia a couple of years back

I am "guilty as charged" from an Emirates flight to Dubai - I may have posted a Facebook update from 35,000ft. The On-Air wifi on the Emirates A380 was good and not too expensive either.

Brilliant... Does beat someone checking in at home though. Which ive never understood.
