Hi I need some help as I am writing up a Trip Report and was hoping to include some photos but I don't seem to be able to figure out how to include them. What am I doing wrong?

When you post a new topic, just under the text box you should see 2 tabs 'Options' and 'Upload attachment'

1) Click the 'Upload attachment' tab, click the 'Choose File' box to select your photo.
2) Click the 'Add the file' button.
3) Click in your post where you want the pic to go then finally click the 'Place inline' button.

You should then see the following code added to your post:

{attachment=0}photo.jpg{/attachment}

You can move this code anywhere within your post to select the pic location within your text.

(It will be in square brackets though as I've changed it to show you what the code looks like without actually activating the code)

To add further photos start from step 1 again for each additional photo.

Thanks James. Sorry to say I must be doing something wrong as I can't see the Place in line button and it keeps coming up that the file is invalid.

The 'file invalid' message might be the first problem to solve. There are some restrictions on the web that mean an image straight off your digital camera won't work on a website. For instance, file size - most cameras, even camera phones, capture photos at about 3MB+, whereas most images on a website need to be <100K in order to preserve download speeds. Dimensions are the first thing to address, as the width of a typical web photo is about 600px, not the 3,000px + straight from the camera. So if you resize your images to 600px wide with 80% JPG compression, your images will be in good shape for the web. Also watch the file name. Web URLs (i.e., v-flyer.com/forum) don't have spaces and special characters, so make sure your image isn't called "Mike's Holiday.jpg" or something similar.

The above said, the website attempts to fix as many of the problems as it can, but if you can do the pre-processing there's less chance of errors. If the above is all hieroglyphs to you, then there a few methods to achieve this without being a Photoshop guru.

1. If you are taking your photos on an iPhone/iPad, email the photos to yourself and iOS will automatically ask you if you want the attachments sent small/medium/large or original size. The small size is normally fine for web use - then when the email arrives, save to your hard drive and check the file name to make sure it doesn't contain spaces or punctuation.
2. Upload the photo to Facebook first. It will do some pretty nasty things to the compression, but it will crunch the size right down automatically. You can then view the photo in Facebook and simply drag it out again to your desktop.
3. Check if the software that came with your camera has any photo utilities. If it does, a resize option is bound to be part of its tools. As with the iOS method, check the filename as well when you save the file.

Many thanks for the detailed explanation I did wonder whether the photos were too big. Will try to sort it tomorrow and, hopefully, post the trip report.

[img]website.jpg[/ img] which links to the picture.
