SFO/LAX G upgrades!

I just had to share the happiness with people who'd understand! We just reserved some Gs for an outbound flight LHR to SFO and inbound from LAX to LHR on the exact dates that we needed. The agent I spoke to on the phone was super helpful (and seemed strangely relieved/pleasantly surprised that I knew what an M class upgrade was!) and the tickets are on hold until some miles clear into my account early next week. I'm extra pleased because the price on the tickets is great, saves us quite a bit on PE (which is what we would have booked with cash if we hadn't been able to upgrade). I've been eyeing the availability for a while and praying they wouldn't disappear, but decided today to bite the bullet and put the tickets on hold. We seem to have been very lucky as there's a decent amount of availability around the dates we're looking at. Sadly when we're looking at going to LAX next in early July there's no availability whatsoever... guess we'll be paying for PE that time! But I can't complain; FC miles have been good to us so far :)

That's great ^)

May I ask roughly how much this works out please? OH and I are planning on going LHR-SFO and either LAS or LAX back next autumn (tickets haven't been released yet) but a few dummy searches for ex-DUB routes in UC appear to be only around £180 more and I'm currently finding it difficult to justify M to G even if I can track down those Gs :|

We have also secured G for April 2015. Flying LHR-LAX & back from SFO.
The cost of the M fare was about £1120 each + 50k in miles. We are more than happy with that costing y)

Can't comment on the ex-DUB route as it wasn't something I could consider. it would just be my luck that they tighten up on the T&C's resulting in my luggage going over to Dublin with us waiting for it in London!!

Happy planning :)

Petmadness, thank you! It is indeed very satisfying, and a feeling I knew more people here would appreciate than anywhere else I frequent online! My OH is extremely happy with the outcome, however :)

mrsw, we considered ex-DUB but in the ended decided it would be a bit too much hassle this time as a large portion of this trip is business. When I checked, ex-DUB was coming in at around just under £1,500 each. This cost us £1,145 plus 50k miles each. We'd still definitely consider ex-DUB, but probably for a leisure trip :) I also have this new attitude of "earn and burn" when it comes to miles; as soon as we have them I spend them just in case a route gets cancelled or they get devalued. It goes against my nature as a hoarder but it seems to be the best option for us.

Hev60, we're travelling in April, too! :) Glad you got such a great price, it's a little better than ours but I'll live with spending the extra £50 I'm sure! Congratulations on getting them. Like you, I am a bit worried about them getting a little more strict about skipping the last leg, and the TPs and miles are quite valuable to us at the moment, so I didn't want to risk anything that might jeopardise any of that.

Hubby & I are doing the same route at approx the same time but we've cashed in the miles & paid £1,120 for both of us 8D

Unfortunately we didn't have enough miles for the option of 'reward' flights.

I made a bad move in 2013 moving from the VS AmEx credit card to a BA one :(

+1. That's a good deal and a great outcome as we all know that West Coast route G availability, especially on return sectors, can be hard to come by.

Thank you, guys! Much appreciated. I had basically told myself (and my husband) we'd never get Gs to the west coast due to poor availability, so both he and I are very pleased with this outcome.

The recently announced increase in the number of flights to the West Coast starting summer 2015 has certainly helped with "G" availability.

I managed to get a "G" (upgraded from an "M") next September on the dates I wanted into LAX and out of SFO.

Yes, I think the additional west coast flights have been a real boon in terms of miles redemptions on those routes. Hope you have a fantastic time in September!

Congratulations on bagging those upgrades.

I bought our tickets back in February for LHR-SFO and back and because I've got some kind of warped sense of humour have been checking everyweek just to see if any reward availability comes up on our dates and there has only been two occasions so I'm kinda pleased I got UC at a relatively good price.

So excellent job getting something that's so rare.
